Ion air cleaners clean the air and purify it. This is especially beneficial for people who suffer from respiratory problems such as asthma and allergies. On the downside, most of the ionic air purifiers generate some amount of ozone as ozone is not good for the environment.

Ionic Air Purifiers Are Risky Or Helpful?

Ionic air purifiers are not your average air purifiers, also known as ozone air purifiers or ion air cleaners, they seem to have swept the market by storm. The mechanism by they function is relatively simple but of great benefit. They release negatively charged ions into the air which makes particles such as pollen, dust and dust mites, mold spores, bacteria, pet dander, and smoke and likewise to attract one another. These new particles become heftier and settle on surfaces from where they can be easily cleaned off. This cleanses the air and purifies it, leaving clean air for us to breathe.

An ion can be defined in easy terms as a positively or negatively charged static electricity. We are constantly breathing air that is charged with ions. What an ion cleaner does is that it lessens the amount of positive ions in the air and increases the number of negative ions. Negative ions purify the air and give a refreshing feel to the air we breathe whereas positive ions make the atmosphere heavier and denser.

Ionic Air Purifiers Come in Many Brands and Models

These air purifiers come in very many brands and models, varying in features and efficacy. Pieces of advice, if you buy a model with a fan, then ensure that you test it in the store before actually purchasing it as they can be very noisy. These models basically make use of the air currents in the house that are generated from breezes through windows, human movement and ceiling fans, to spur the negative ions into all parts of a room.

Few Drawbacks of Ionic Air Purifiers

On the downside, most of the ionic air purifiers generate some amount of ozone due to the ionization process. In significant amounts, this can lead to serious health issues as ozone is not good for the environment. So to be on the safe side, purchase an air purifier that gives off less than fifty parts per billion of ozone as prevention is better than cure.

Few Benefits of Ionic Air Purifiers

Ion air cleaners clean the air and purify it, by removing all impurities and pollutants from it. This is especially beneficial for people who suffer from respiratory problems such as asthma and allergies. The latest models have upgraded technology which is all the more better at removing air borne pollutants. It also eliminates foul smells and odor from the air, refreshing the environment.

The ozone air purifiers are not vary in size and can easily fit on a shelf in any room. You would be surprised to know that there are some models that are specially designed for cars! They come in various sizes that are designed according to the purification needs of different rooms. The larger models even though big in size can be relocated from one room to another.

Find the Best Air Purifier to Match Your Specific Need and Long Term Health

Therefore it is best to be prepared before you indulge in purchasing one, and for that it is imperative that you are well aware about ionic air purifiers and which one would best suit your needs. Denise, Ozone can be good or bad, depending on where it is found. In the high, upper atmosphere, in the Ozone layer, it is good. Sadly the Ozone layer is being depleted by man's abusive behavior. Ozone at ground level can exacerbate certain medical conditions, like asthma and emphysema. At ground level, in high concentration it may even cause other medical problems. The good news is that ionic air filters are tested bu both the Underwriters Laboratories and the EPA and if those labels appear on the unit, it is safe to use.

One huge disadvantage of ionizers is that you will end up with black walls. The unit charges the walls with negative ions, and dirt simply adheres to the walls.
