Can you imagine going back to your youthful days? Ayurveda says it can restore your youth. Panchakarma of Ayurveda cleanses the toxins from body and rejuvenates. It makes your body and mind resurrect with fresh energy, restoring balance in the system of the body.

Ayurveda heals diseases by cleansing toxins

Everyone wants to look young. There is a Hindu legend about Markandeya who got a boon from gods to look young for ever. It is a human instinct that aspires to look young and sociable. Ayurveda, the Vedic medical science of ancient India, prescribes Panchakarma treatment to restore balance in the three humors of the body system. It activates the spark within the body and mind, enabling the flow of prana(life energy). It can transform the whole personality with positive good health and radiate original beauty.

What is the reason for diseases?

According to Ayurveda, toxins collected in body and mind cause diseases. In the modern lifestyle, it has become extremely difficult to avoid the toxins, stress, radiation and pollution which affect both body and mind. These toxins damage natural health and reduce vitality. Toxins have been around humanity in one form or another ever since the first man was born.

What is Panchakarma?

Ayurveda has been trying to neutralize the toxins and purify the body with its various methods of treatments. The Sanskrit word “Panchakarma” literally means “five-fold method”or five therapies. Ayurveda uses this five-fold method to cleanse the toxins and rejuvenate life.

Panchakarma and the five therapies

The five therapies of Panchakarma include vomiting, purgation, enema, nasal cleaning and bleeding therapy. This five-fold treatment is generally followed by a rejuvenation therapy called Rasayana. These five therapies are administered on a patient in accordance with his health condition. The main purpose of Panchakarma is to keep the three humors, Vata, Pitta and Kapha in balance by getting rid of the toxins accumulated in the body due to diet and other external factors.

Treatment methods of Panchakarma

Panchakarma is performed in three steps. They are:

1) External and internal preparation for cleansing

2) Actual excretion process

3) Follow up treatment given to stabilize the system.

This treatment provides significant improvement in overall health and strengthens the immune system. Elimination of toxins and strengthening the system are the two main functions of Panchakarma.

Elimination of toxins

1) Vamana (therapeutic vomiting), basti (enema) and virechana (therapeutic purgation) are cleansing methods, performed for a few days so as to cleanse all the toxins from the body.

2) Medicated ghee is given internally early in the morning before eating or drinking anything. The medicated fat in ghee travels throughout the body and removes toxins stored in the tissues.

3) During the preparation stage, oil massages and steam baths are performed to mobilize the toxins towards the gastrointestinal tract for elimination.

4) When the body is ready for the actual excretion process, medicine is administered orally or through enema to induce the expulsion of these toxins.

5) After eliminating the toxins, a special diet regimen is prescribed to regulate metabolism and strengthen the systems of the body.

6) Nasya or nasal drop administration is considered very effective in treating disorders of the head, eye, ear, nose and throat. Usually, medicated drops are administered through nostrils.

7) Blood-letting therapy or bleeding therapy removes impure blood through bleeding methods such as leech therapy.

Panchakarma is an important branch of Ayurveda. It eliminates toxins and strengthens the immune system. This method ensures complete recovery from diseases and protects body and mind with restored energy. Panchakarma, with its various methods, rejuvenates body and mind and keeps them energetic and young.
