Not only is dancing good for you physically, but mentally as well. Whether you are a professional or just like goofing around in your house the benefits are amazing!

Physical Benefits

One of the number one health benefits of dancing has got to be weight loss. Even for the person that absolutely loathes exercise(myself) dancing is a great way to get in that much needed exercise without even realizing it.

Increased flexibility especially for women is always a plus. Warm ups and stretches you can and should do before any exercise can help you maintain or increase your flexibility. And depending on what style of dancing you are drawn to, the dancing itself can improve range of motion.

Another major benefit of dancing is increased strength. Dancing requires a lot of muscle control especially in the legs and stomach area.

Dancing can also greatly minimize your chances for bone diseases such as osteoporosis as it helps strengthen bones, mostly in the hips and legs.

Mental Benefits

Dancing is fun for anybody. You don't have to be good at, you just have to do it to see the changes in your life.

Dancing can help raise your self-esteem. Not only will you feel better mentally, but you will begin to look better as well, and just something about good music makes everybody feel better.

Stress relief can also be a benefit of dancing. No matter what kind of music you enjoy, putting on some good music and just letting go for a few minutes can relieve tension, anger, and even depression.

Crazy, Silly Fun

I personally prefer just acting like an idiot around my house. Mp3 player in my pocket while I'm cleaning house, or just have some of that rare "me" time. Being the big Rap fan that I am though most people would probably say my dancing is not suitable for all audiences either. Though I do enjoy teaching my nieces all of the latest dance crazes such as "The Cupid Shuffle" or the "Teach Me How To Dougie" dance. I can even do any "Crank Dat" dance you can find on the internet. All of which make you look like a complete fool but are the most fun you will ever have.

I agree, Stephanie. I prefer a good old style square dance or western line dancing but I can manage a decent waltz if the situation calls for it. As for all those modern gyrations that go under the name of dancing, I leave that for you younger folks. I never did get into the rock and roll and post rock and roll swing of things :-))

I couldn't agree more! Dancing exercises all those important muscle groups. I do the "Footloose" K. Login's CD. I can't sit still when that is on, and it's such a good one for getting your feet to move.

It is said that dancing is as good as having sex wherein you lose the similar amount of calories in that half hour workout.
I love to dance and try to fit atleast 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of it into my present schedule everyday. But when I really get a chance it is about 2-3 hours at a stretch and yes, I have danced all night and got up and got to work after that too...
Well no doubt you know my favourite, its Michael Jackson so yes, I dance like him. 12000 watt stereo gives the thump I need to get the feet moving.
Good observation that dance makes you lose weight, it does. I am 57kgs from 82kgs post baby because of it....

No longer write out here, have my own website so cancelled account here and putting my stuff out there. www.anishaachan.com --- design is interim but the bigger and better will be out soon. Launch 6th February 2012
