We should be prepared to help others wherever we can and be imaginative about how we do it. Sometimes it can be easier for the person who wishes to give help to notice that the person requires it than it is for the other person to ask for assistance.

A Personal Note

I have always wanted to help people, and I guess this is one of the reasons for starting this series. However I have never worked in any traditional "helping others" type of job like nursing, or social work. My contribution has been to technology, business management, and consulting (but hey that is all about helping others) and of late writing.

Yet the more I have progressed through life I have come to a realisation that giving back is an important part of my current life, which may be one of the reasons for writing.

Having been privileged to become a Moderator here on Wikinut one of the things that I have felt to be important is to give readers tips that will help their articles gain more attention both here on Wikinut, but also how they are seen by the outside world (e.g. through a Google search) and help them improve their future submissions.

The truth is that the majority of such advice goes primarily unheeded, then today I had four people asking for advice at the same time.

Help Where You Can

It is always important to help where you can; if you can. Obviously it is not wise to help when you do not have the skill to do so; this could end up making things worse than they already are.

One of the challenges about helping others is that they must be willing to receive the assistance. When you are talking face-to-face it is easier to ascertain the needs of others. When advice is given on-line it is not always possible to ascertain the needs of others so sadly it can fall on deaf ears.

Sometimes it is easier for the person who wishes to give help to notice that the other person requires it than for that person to ask for assistance. Who would have thought it would be so complicated?

Social Networks

One of the great things about being involved in a social network (whether on-line or in person) is that people are always willing to assist others and visa-versa. That is the power of the Social Network, it is very much a mutual self-help group, at least when it works properly.

People work with others in their network for mutual assistance. This idea is expanding to many parts of our lives today as most online site have social elements.

Ultimately it is true that we should be prepared to help others wherever we can and be imaginative about how we do it.
