Hope for the Best But Prepare For the Worst-Thoughts For 2012

What should be the proper mindset this coming New Year 2012? Is it helpful to imagine the worst things to happen or better think and focus only on all the best things that are yet to come?

Think Positive

I really do believe that one needs to train oneself to think positively especially if you want to succeed and attain great heights in life. That is why when we are venturing into something new, we always ward off those negative thoughts and focus only on the positive.

Do you like hearing those words “THE BEST IS YET TO COME” in some seminars or meetings where people are encouraged to think positively and claim all the good things to come? Most of us would like to hear those most of the time. It makes us feel excited about the future. We are full of wonderful expectations. It’s like everything we are dreaming of and imagining of would someday become a reality.

For me, I love to hear it when Joyce Meyer says that we if we have current problems or crisis just think that THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

If your situation now does not seem pleasant it’s good to keep your hopes high and HOPE FOR ALL THE BEST!

Expect the Worst

You know, I convince myself a long time ago that it’s very important for me to be optimistic at all times in order for me to survive. When things are not going well, I just say that this is just for a moment and tomorrow is another day and good days will come. One time, I heard in the workplace the word “expect the worst”. I am not comfortable to hear those words as I am struggling to be positive as much as I can.

Hope for the best and expect the worst

As I made a research on these two sides -hopes for the best and expect the worst- I realized that it is actually a saying. I even saw a website that shows a tattoo of this line which sounds much better. It says: “Hope for the best, Expect the Worst, Life Is a Play, Were Unrehearsed” This site is a literary tattoo site where they have this sayings tattooed on their skin.

Which side would you choose?

I searched for a discussion on this topic and I saw this link:

Here I got idea on how would I look at this philosophy. In my opinion, I don’t want to include the thought of expecting the worst and I only want to hope for the best but now, I have realized that this is a good kind of thinking after all.

Optimist and idealist would not surely agree with this but realist will do. I think it is far more realistic to think of expecting the worst in life without being too paranoid.

Nevertheless, I would continue to place a lot of faith in the coming year 2012. Every New Year has a possibility to bring something new in life. No matter what the Chinese feng shui experts would say about this year or no matter what the Mayan calendar says about 2012, I will still hope for the best.

I thank God nothing worst happens to me and my family this year 2011. I am thankful that I survived the whole year even if there are some difficulties in life. For me, I would continue to hope for the best but I would also be prepared for the worst. The more prepared you are for the worst, the less disappointed you will be and also you can accept easily anything that happens without easily falling apart.

With this I just pray for all the best for all friends here in Wikinut. Have a Blessed New Year!

People who ive by the philosophy of hope for the best, expect the worse often get the worse because they unconsciously do things that brings the worse to fruition. Sigmund Freud called that "Prophecy Fulfillment." If one expects something to happen, more often than not it does happen because the person does things to make it happen.

Have a safe and Happy New Year.

I agree it sounds like a "self-fulfilling prophecy". Its better to hope for the best but still be prepared and ready for anything worst.

averygirl72 I use to build and race stock cars back in the day when one man could afford to build and race his own cars with having big money sponsors behind him. I never entered a race but expecting the worse, expecting to wreck my car or to lose for some other reason. I have never known any driver that thought that way. We never entered any race hoping to win, we entered every race planning to win. I, like every other driver, loss my share of races just as I won my share of races, but I never ever expected to lose a race. Auto racing is like anything else in life, if you expect to succeed, if you plan to succeed, you have a far better chance of succeeding than if you hope to succeed but plan for the worse. Knowing that it is always possible to lose is one thing, planning for it is another thing entirely.

I would have to agree with our friend Jerry's perspective. Positive thoughts create the reality hoped for as does negative thoughts and that's how powerful the mind is.

So, Aubrey, let's only for the best. Great star page you have here.

Happy New Year to one and all!

Thinking positive is the way for me though that doesn't necessarily mean unavailability of misfortunes. I know they can befall me but my positive thoughts give them no room in my life.

Thanks for sharing!
