Plotting a positive course is important it lifts us and encourages us, Yet is there a little extra that we can do? That little extra often comes in the form of helping others - what can you do?
Looking for Positives
Taking a positive attitude is vital in life. In everything we do it is important to take those positive steps. Of course paths take the weirdest of routes, but if we are focused then we can be assured that they move in the right direction - the positive result.
With the positive goal in mind we are able to control the thoughts and feelings that we have. Control is important here, because it when this is lacking negative results occur.
When the athlete is in competition they experience the full range of emotions, but then so is everyone they are competing against going through the same challenges. Sports brings out the extremes in people; the underdog can believe that they can beat the champion and most of the way they succeed is through their mental approach, which can be the most powerful difference in the whole world.
Impacting Others
It is through that mental approach that we can impact others. Yet in the majority of occasions we focus on co-operation rather than competition.
Working together we learn when to push and when to pull. This is an essence of teamwork and when it works well there is no better feeling in the world. People work independently, yet at the same-time they are aware of a common goal - which of course drives the team. The funny thing is that we think of teamwork as being a part of the work environment, yet it is of equal importance in our social groups.
I have just completed a year as President of our local Toastmaster's club and the key aspect here is not about dictating what needs to be done it is about working with others for group success. We have succeeded as a club not because of one person's success, but because of every member working together to ensure that we had successful meetings. I am happy to hand on the baton to the next president and I am confident that the club will go on to build new successes. Alone we can go so far but working together we become more than the sum of individuals in the teams that we are in.
I have used the example of Toastmasters many times in this series, and it is important because it is an example of an on organisation where members have the same basic objective, to become better speakers. Each member may have different goals in life, but they can all assist each other at the end of the day in one specific area. They impact each other and help every other member improve by evaluation.
The Little Extra
It is ultimately that extra assistance we receive from others that can impact us the most; those that help when they have no need to. It is that little extra assistance that you can give that helps you stand out from the crowd; its about giving - that little extra!
What can you do? Who can you help? and...
