This is part 6 of a series of 12 articles about what they should have, but didn't teach us in school! Today: Becoming "waste" or "rubbish" conscious is not a waste of time!

It's all rubbish at the end

It's all rrrrubbbish .... Well, so much really is just rubbish and there's no point in sorting rubbish, it just gets all dumped together on the skips again, well, most of it anyway. So the only hope is really that one day each individual simply composts everything natural and avoids other rubbish as best as can.

Avoid plastic bags!

One thing we can definitely avoid is plastic bags. We can do as our parents and grandparents did, just bring our own hemp or cotton bags or nets. One day last year, I was opening one of these supermarket plastic bags and the chemical smell that came out of it was absolutely overpowering. I don't know why I could only smell it so badly on this particular day, but nowadays I think, I prefer the smell of a hemp bag anyday to this horrible plastic smell.

Bring your own containers to the super-market?

I'm told that in Germany people bring their own dishes for meat and other food they buy at the deli to avoid the double wrapping of sausages, meat, cheese etc. And I'm also told that they can unwrap packaged goods after they passed through the till and leave the packaging besides the till in big containers. And since the supermarkets didn't know how to dispose of the rubbish, they gave it back to the producers and manufacturers and bingo, they produced less packaging. Well, not always, of course, but it's a start I suppose.

Replace "plastic" clothes with natural fibre again!

Natural fibre clothes just ARE very expensive, but I thought I might just as well invest some extra pennies and little by little replace all my clothes including bedclothes and tablecloths with natural fibres like 100% organically grown hemp or cotton, unbleached of course, maybe coloured with natural dyes! Same with wool and silk. I think it's not only worth doing for our health, but also they can be recycled or disposed of safely.

Not much has changed in the "personal care" department

I wonder when they come up with toilet paper, nappies, sanitary towels and tampons made from 100% organically grown fibre. But since nobody dares to demand it, the industry gets away with producing these necesseties in shockingly bad and unhealthy quality. Yes, I've just discovered some toilet paper made from recycled paper. Hm.

What's new on recycling in industry and politics - not much!

I know we'll still have problems with disposing of furniture, tyres, matresses, old fridges and I haven't even started on talking about nuclear waste, chemical waste, sewage etc., but I think that there are many orgnisations like Green Peace who effectively work for a cleaner environment, saving rain forests and oceans and much more. I think it's worthwile to spend some thoughts on disposal ideas or simply thoughts on avoiding rubbish in our own homes to be able to live in future in a clean and healthy environment.

As always, working for

A SUCCESSFUL, HAPPY AND HEALTHY FUTURE

Thanks for calling in!

Excellent article and so true. We buy seriously over-packaged products and for what? To chuck them in the bin. Excellent topic, Chrysolite x

You are so damn right in here about plastic bags.Somewhere I was told that cows chewed away plastic bags ,developed stomach complications and died. That was some harm that plastic could wreck on us.Thanks for an informative write.
