This is part 7 of a series of 12 articles about what they should have, but didn't teach us in school!
Today: "Health" is a billion $$$ business without guarantee, but the truth is, as always, very simple.
- Health is not dreaming about it, but DOING something about it
- You are what you eat
- Exercise on fresh air
- Mind what you think
- Spiritual
- Conclusion
Health is not dreaming about it, but DOING something about it
Health in body, mind and spirit. Isn't that what we dream about? - Well, it IS possible and not only possible, it's our birthright and as opposed to most other subjects in life, health in body, mind and spirit can be achieved by ourselves and nobody and no law can stop us. There is simply no law that will tell you what you have to stuff into your mouth regarding food and drink and there's no law to forbid you to exercise in fresh air and there is no law to forbid you to think positive, happy and content thoughts. So it's up to YOU entirely. I didn't say it is easy and one has to study quite a lot and overcome the brainwashing of TV advertising and the knowledgeable (?) neighbour's, mother's, work or pub mate's advice, but at least there is nobody who can stop us legally living a healthy lifestyle. I find this a very comforting thought actually, but also a bit frightening. After all, who can tell or teach us what is a healthy and happy lifestyle - not the unhealthy and unhappy people, of course!
I am attempting here to shed some light on the subject health as I've studied it for over 25 years and "walked my talk" and feel I have succeeded. I actually feel that I am healthy and happy in body, mind and spirit. Maybe you would feel different if you had to live my lifestyle, but if you don't feel well at all at the moment, maybe I can interest you in a few basic principles that are accepted by the foremost doctors, nutritionists and herbalists in the world and if you feel you want to take some of the suggestions on board, I'll be glad and if not, I hope that you will strive to investigate and learn for yourself what is best for your body, mind and spirit, so you can be happy and healthy, too.
You are what you eat
Boring? Heard it a hundred times before? Got a bad stomach and can only eat refined food? I've heard it all before, criticising doesn't help, raising awareness doesn't help, most people just want to carry on eating junk food which is why so many shelves in supermarkets are filled with it. Actually, queuing up at the till, I can tell which illness the person before and behind me is suffering from by just looking at them and the contents of their trolley. Those same people then will tell a nutritionist or a doctor that they NEVER eat "that" stuff and that's why they can't understand that they are ill. Alright, in my book it's not ok to tell lies in general, but the worst is lying to onesself.
But, we are in a dilemma. Even if somebody eats fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds and recipes made thereof, anything we buy in a supermarket or often even healthfood shop, is simply unhealthy to a degree, because nowadays food plants are grown in depleted soil. If the soil doesn't carry all the nutrients for the plants, the plants can't carry them either. And furthermore, if a plant is harvested before it is fully ripe, it will carry even less nutrition and finally, even fresh foods are wrapped up and are "stored" for days and weeks on end losing even more nutrition by the hour.
And when we finally consume our "healthy" salad or "healthy" food we cooked lovingly, we still end up without energy or with light depression which are often the first sign of illness and later, we get symptoms of illnesses which make the visit to the doctor and the intake of tablets necessary just to be able to "carry on". Here commences the downward spiral from which there is no escape unless we grow our own organic food lovingly. Everybody can find a way to do it, one way or the other and since industry, farming and society don't cater for our health needs, we only have one solution and that is growing our own as much as possible. As much as possible!!!
Then they tell us that we have to take "supplements" to make up what isn't available in our food nowadays. Excuse me??? Do I have to pay twice now for my food? Is this some sort of a sick joke?
Now pull your green fingers out and dig for health which then takes care of the next issue all by itself:
Exercise on fresh air
Yes, gardening is after all the best exercise on fresh air. An hour each day and you've got all the food and fresh air necessary to keep healthy even in old age. You know that this is true!
I've also finally got round to walking. Last year our car broke down - no more chance to repair it again or buy another one. It's 8 km to the next village and 12 km to the next town and 4 km to the main road where I can hitchhike. People know me here, the mad woman from the mountains and pick me up. I did the 8 km to the next village once, I reckon I won't do that in a hurry again ;(
And yes, when I was young I once did 50 km around the lake where we used to live. Wish me luck, I want to get so fit again that I can do that!
Mind what you think
Ora et labora/pray and work, the old Romans had it worked out. How can I think a bad thought while caring lovingly for the little plants that one day will be my food? How can I think a bad thought praying to God? How can I think a bad thought sitting together with good friends over a nice meal?
I reckon, my life is very simple now in a way. The internet is my window to the world and there is a nice button that will shut out the bad. I wish I could somehow share the happiness that this "simple" lifestyle gives me, but I guess there is only one way to really find out and that is to do it!
Spiritual
If it's true (and I guess it is) that we are meant to live this life to spiritually advance, then maybe it's a good idea to study the various words of wisdom. We are all on the "spiritual path" and each step in the right direction will let us reach our goal.
There is no need to "pay money" for our spiritual salvation, even if churches and "gurus" try to make out that this is the case. Ora et labora works!
Conclusion
The truth is simple, but facing it in our society can be quite hard. But I know, it's worth listening to our true "inner voice" or intuition, the little voice we can all hear if we are prepared to listen and act accordingly.
As always, working for
A SUCCESSFUL, HAPPY AND HEALTHY FUTURE
Thanks for calling in!

Thank you, Melissa! Sometimes I'm a bit too outspoken, but well, the truth is the truth ...
