Do you take time to relax? It seems a sad fact that we all fail to take time and relax. Now it is time to take a new path and include relaxation as a part of your daily routine.

The Sunday Off

One thing I am sure we can all agree on is the fact that we do not spend enough time relaxing. When was the last time you put your feet up with nothing to do? If you are like me then it was a long time ago. Take a look at the recent posts in this series to see this is true, most are work related - not surprising since that is my normal focus.

Sundays were meant for taking time to relax, yet at the same time there is always so much to do. Nowadays our day off seems never to be used for relaxation. For those in the northern hemisphere this is particularly important in order to make full use of the good weather. This is the time for taking a rest away from home as well as taking a rest at home; much depends on your priorities and wishes.

This is a habit we have to re-acquire as Sundays of late have been busy with other things. Hmmm., chalk that one onto the to-do list.

Are you Relaxed?

The trouble was today's weather in our area made us feel like we were baking in an oven. with the temperature rising above 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Yet in this city there are several places where it is possible to ignore the heat and relax under the spray of the waterfall; but that is one advantage our city has.

Even with weather extremes it is still possible to relax; we simply have to find alternative ways to make it happen.

You could spend the day in bed; Hmm... perhaps not - it may be the fullest amount of rest, but is rarely relaxing. Here are a few ways to help you relax:

  • Do something to help you laugh - laughter helps release tension
  • Take five or ten minutes of personal time
  • [*}Join a yoga class to stretch and relax muscles.
  • Go outside and get fresh air.
  • Eat some fruit.
  • Have an ice-cream
  • Drink some water.

Truth is there are hundreds of ways to relax; ultimately you have to find something that works for you. That is one key element of our humanity all of our differences.

I know how to relax, but my wife does not, she likes to be busy all the time, I have to sometimes force her to slow down. Great article again Peter. We must find time to enjoy our life.

I think we're all finding it harder to relax, but it is oh so necessary. Throwing away my computer would certainly help!!
