If like me you are easily distracted from the task in hand then read on as the famous Spaniel duo of Honey and Skipper teach the white haired one yet another life lesson.

The Project

I have been trying very hard over the last few months to build a website, a project which has been in the pipeline for many years. This if you have any experience of such matters you will know takes hour after hour of diligent attention, which is where my problem appears.

You see I am either blessed of cursed with a childlike fascination with everything. A good thing I agree if like me you clocked up over half a century on Mother Earth, in fact many of the great wisdom teaching of the last five millenniums often talk about maintaining a childlike interest in life as supposedly keeps your mind agile and your life force strong.

Torville and Deane ride again

Trouble is I sit down at my trusty Computer and I’m ready to give those keys what fore. Idea’s for articles swirl round my head like a whirlpool in a Scottish sea loch, my fingers are poised to unleash the majesty of wisdom trapped in my mind, everything is set for several hours of non-stop production and then just as I’m about to get going on my noble quest, I think to myself “ I will just check my e-mails

The e-mails lead on to some forums and before I know it I’m on you tube watching Torville and Deane performing their gold medal winning performance in the 1984 winter Olympics. With tears of emotion filling my eyes and I then glance at the digital clock sitting in the corner of the screen and an hour has past.

What have I achieved? A big fat nothing again, apart from the pleasure of watching Torville and Dean in perfect harmony yet again.

Then I am filled with a feeling of regret as the moment has past, the tide has gone out in my mind and instead of unleashing I find I have unraveled.

Time to walk the Spaniels

Only one way to clear my head and that is to take my lovely Spaniels out for a walk, you may have heard me mention them before, their names or Honey and Skipper.
Now I learn a lot from these two as they have a sneaky way of teaching me valuable lessons when I least expect. Today was no different.

We had walked for a mile or two on our favorite piece of common land, Honey was busy sniffing and mooching about in the bushes just as you would expect of a young lady Cocker and Skipper was doing his usual, chasing sticks.

That is all Skipper ever wants to do, hour after hour and his enthusiasm never fades. As I throw the stick for the umpteenth time into a particularly difficult spot for him to reach I begin to receive today’s lesson.
Skipper has difficulty finding this stick as it went into a large trench, but in his usual full on frantic manner that only Springer Spaniel owners will truly appreciate he set about his task.
While searching other Dogs came by, being very sociable and wanting to exchange sniffs, Skipper was having none of it.
When Honey started chasing him round and round biting his long floppy ears he just continued on his search for the elusive stick.

Lesson learnt.......well sort of.

Eventfully he found the stick which he deposited at my feet, panting furiously but ready to go again for yet another hunt.
The lesson for today was all about focus and not being sidetracked. This young Spaniel had shown me that if I really want to achieve anything I have to focus and stop letting everything else distract me.
As usual I feel humbled and take a stroll back home with my beautiful Dogs. Fed and watered they both settle down by the fire for a well earned sleep as I glance at the Computer with a steely glint in my eye ready yet again to do battle with the keyboard.

My wonderful Spaniels have taught me yet another valuable lesson without ever uttering a word or a woof and I am forever grateful for their wise advice.

At last I fire up the electronic beast my heart bursting with creative joy and then …… Damn! I left Torvill and Deane stuck on the ice.

Well perhaps just one more look before I start, I do so love that Bolero.

Happy Days WHO

First of all, what lovely dogs you have. Great photos! How can you not fall in love with Honey and Skipper. Some of the life lessons I have been taught through the years, have come from my furry friends. I always say, "from the mouth of babes and dogs.". LOL
Great writing, wonderful photos, just a very entertaining read. I just love this one line... Idea’s for articles swirl round my head like a whirlpool in a Scottish sea loch. Gotta love it! Congrats on the star page, it is well deserved. As always, thank you for sharing.:)

Cute spaniels! I grew up with blond one and now my parents have a red and white cocker. They make great pets--sweet and smart, though in old age they often lose hearing and sight (yet still remain a delight). Bravo on your star.
