Introduction
The entamoeba histolyca is a single celled parasitic animal that can infect humans and other primates. This species of parasite can cause entamoebiasis and amebic dysentery. The most common symptom if you are infected with this parasite is severe diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloody stool and rectal pain. This parasite can be transmitted through the fecal-oral route, blood, needles, blood transfusion, sexual contact, cough, saliva, air, mother to fetus, etc. Here are some tips for avoiding infection with entamoeba histolytica parasite.
Proper hand washing
Proper hand washing can prevent infection. It can also lower your risk of contracting and spreading diseases. Soap and water is more than enough to reduce the number of germs on your hand. If soap and water is not available you can use an alcohol based hand sanitizer for the time being, however this is not a substitute for proper hand washing. You should wash your hands after using the comfort room. Wash also your hands before and after eating. Make hand washing a regular habit.
Avoid or minimize sharing personal things
Avoid or minimize sharing personal things such as towels, face towels, needles, lipstick, lip gloss, toothbrush, etc. Since the parasite can be passed through saliva, blood and other bodily fluids it is better to avoid sharing personal things rather than be infected with entamoeba histolytica. Sharing personal things can increase your risk of catching an infection or a disease. It is proven that sharing some personal things can indeed spread contagious bacteria’s and parasites.
Avoid sexual practices that allow the fecal-oral route
Avoid sexual practices that allow the fecal-oral route. When engaging in sex use condom, plastic wraps latex surgical gloves to protect yourself and your partner from HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and other parasites that can infect you. Practicing safe sex means making sure you and your partner is protected from infecting each other. Whether you are sexually active or not protecting yourself and your partner is the most responsible thing to do.
Do not drink or eat foods that you are not sure where it came from
Do not drink or eat foods that you are not sure where it came from. You may be exposed to parasites and bacteria that cause gastrointestinal infections by eating or drinking food from unreliable sources. Although sometimes these parasites are not usually serious in healthy people, those who have compromised immune systems may face more serious problems.
You should thoroughly cook all raw foods
If you personally handle your food, you should thoroughly cook all raw foods. Wash raw vegetables and fruits before cooking and eating. Wash your hands before and after cooking especially if you are preparing animal meat. If you have cuts or wound in your fingers and hand use gloves for protection during cooking or food preparation.
Clean your bathroom and toilets regularly
Clean your bathroom and toilets regularly to avoid the spread of diseases among your family members. Wipe all surfaces dry because wet or damp area can house parasites and bacteria that the naked cannot see. Clean also areas where you mostly use.
