We all think that wisdom must come from a Guru but if you take the time to look around you will see that our Teachers are everywhere, the Universe will provide.
I waited for him
When the Pupil is ready
There is a thought rooted in eastern philosophy that say's “When the pupil is ready the teacher will appear " . I have been waiting for this archetypal wizened old gentleman for years, ready to sit at his feet to drink in his hard earned wisdom. Oh yes, I have been reading all the books, listened to the teachings, worn the spiritual t-shirt but, still I wait patiently for the wise old monk to appear and input his wonderful wisdom directly into my soul. From that moment I hoped that I would be set free from worry, anxiety, anger and the myriad of other human frailties that I suffer from along with billions of others. You may be like me waiting patiently for your grasshopper moment but, the universe works in mysterious ways.
Skipper appears
My own teacher it seems has been rather unexpected - a very energetic Canine in the form of a Spaniel called Skipper. Let me reassure you - I have not sat in awe while this spirited young dog lectures me in the ways of goodness and lofty morals, far from it. So what did he do to deserve his Guru tag? Nothing. Apart from be his naughty, mischievous, loving and utterly adorable self. As I write this on my laptop, Skipper climbs onto the sofa and lays his head across my right hand wrist and drifts off to sleep - so I type with the left so as not to wake him.
The lesson for today is in patience, when a doggy needs to sleep he needs to sleep, end of. You see Skipper , I have learned, is the practical embodiment of what the wise Guru's of the past have tried to teach us mortals for thousands of years.To skipper there is no past, no future there is only now. Now it is time to sleep. None of Skipper's energy is frittered away in useless worries or time wasting concerns ,even if there is typing to be done. There is only the stick to find, the ball to chase, the sleep to have and the muddy puddle to jump into when I shout not to. When we go for a walk he almost always gets covered from head to tail in black smelly mud and not a hint of guilt crosses this Spaniels mind only the exquisite pleasure of wallowing in the cooling pleasure of this stinking puddle. He leaves the huffing and puffing and rising blood pressure to me instead. Until I realise he is teaching me again. Bless him!
Skipper will be teaching me again when we get home and he dries himself on the furniture.

So remember next time you find yourself waiting for Obe one Kenobi to turn up and put you right, Hark Now! Watch and listen.
Maybe your kind teacher is closer than you think.
Skipper now moves over to another chair just as I finish this one handed article..........bless.
