Black rice is considered nowadays as one of the super foods because of its rich nutrient contents. Once it was exclusively used by the Royal people. Although costly, it is available to the consumers today.

What is a super food?

Rice is a rich source of energy, especially in the eastern countries. It varies in quality and contents according to its colors. There are white rice, brown rice and black rice. White rice is normally available everywhere. Black rice is black in color and is supposed to be very high in its quality. It takes less time to boil than the other types. In ancient China, it was considered as “forbidden rice” because only the Emperor and other royal people were allowed to eat it. But today scientists suggest that it is one of the most healthy “super foods” available to consumers. The black color of the raw rice turns purple when it is cooked. It is highly pleasing and is aesthetically valuable, since purple is considered as the royal color.

Foods that are rich in nutrient value and powerful enough to help you lower your cholesterol and reduce the risks of fatal diseases such as heart disease and cancer are considered as super foods. They are calorie sparse and nutrient dense helping to maintain good health with anti-oxidants and other essential nutrients.
