Focus less on what other people think and life gets much easier.

Poor self concept

This causes you to feel any criticism of your disabled partner reflects badly on your choice of relationship.

Lack of love

If you really love your partner you'll never feel ashamed. You'll admire their efforts to recover and live as normal a life as possible.

And 'I know best' attitude

You mistakenly try to protect your partner from criticism by keeping them " safely " at home instead of allowing them to learn to deal with other people's reactions.

Negative attitude

You believe people are inherently mean and will be cruel to your partner, which isn't necessarily true.

You place too much emphasis on the importance of what other people say.
Gossip is short-lived and gossips aren't usually admired.
You focus on what your partner is unable to do instead of what they can do.

Lack of acceptance

You can't accept how your partner is now and therefore don't want them to accompany you to visit friends or to go to public places.

It's very true what you say, but thank goodness these days people are more accepting towards disabilities, which they should be. My son is autistic, and I wrote a book to try and raise awareness, which I hope it has.
