8 Most Effective Techniques Used in Today’s Drug Rehab Centers

That drug addiction is a big problem today is no secret. Abuse of illicit drugs, tobacco and alcohol is not only devastating to society it also exacts $700 billion annually according to National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Luckily, there are many drug rehabilitation facilities across the country helping millions of addicts.

If your family member is addicted, there is no reason to let them suffer anymore. A drug rehab is manned by professional counselors, nurses and doctors who ensure full recovery. To appreciate how your loved one will benefit, you just have to look at the approaches used by these experts.

Here are a few.

1. Detoxification: This is the first step in every treatment program. Whether it is drug or alcohol detoxification, it is necessary to allow the healing process to start. The removal of drugs and alcohol from the system allows an addict to start feeling. They get a sense of realization and from this moment it is possible for therapy to commence.

2. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This is rated as one of the most effective approaches to addiction treatment. It involves changing the destructive thinking pattern in an addict by exploring repressed emotions by targeting maladaptive thoughts leading to more positive thinking.

3. Medical treatment: In most cases, addicts need urgent medical attention. Most will undergo serious craving and withdrawal symptoms. Medications are used to reduce such problems but they are administered only where necessary to avoid a new form of addiction.

4. Nutritional approach: Addicts often have issues with their nutrition. Most of them don’t take care of what they eat while others are deprived of crucial nutrients. The best drug rehab centersfocus on dietary needs of the addict to help their bodies respond to medication. They are also taught nutritional skills to help them after recovery.

5. Anger management: Most addiction problems emanate from repressed anger from childhood. Most addicts don’t want to confront the reasons they are angry about their childhood and to cover up, addictive behavior develops. Anger management is all about helping an addict explore these hidden emotions and then helping them to deal with the problem.

6. Rational-emotive therapy: This helps explore belief systems and change them if need be. In most cases an addict will have a distinct belief system that might be lopsided. For instance, they may feel they must achieve and perform highly in order to be appreciated by their family. When they don’t, it is easy to result to destructive behavior including drinking.

7. Motivational interviewing: Every addict has a problem with self-control and counselors focus on this area to help them get back in line. The idea in motivational interviewing is to help an addict get back control of their lives. By asking open-ended questions, a counselor is able to draw out the addict and show them that they can indeed change.

8. Aftercare: This is one of the most overlooked aspects of drug and alcohol rehabilitation. It is important to check on an addict and help them as they get integrated into society. Most counselors offer aftercare programs which help with follow-up, job placement, among other issues.

Through these approaches, among others, it is possible to help your family member get back on their feet.

You have written great about the modern drug rehab techniques.
The Aftercare is such a tough job for the caregivers.
Care of a patient after a stay in hospital is very challenging.
