8 Tips to Cure Insomnia without Medication

Teens, working adults and old people are prone to suffer from insomnia. People facing difficulties in getting to sleep at night, often resort to use sleeping pills or other drugs to force themselves to sleep. In long term run, you will be addicted to medication which is not healthy and costly.

Symptoms of insomnia


Nobody can stand insomnia, it is a nightmare, living a life like a zombie every night.

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder which causes inability to fall asleep at regular time (night) and staying awake until dawn or go without sleep for a few days.

I had encounter insomnia 2 years ago after being absorbed into blogging and watching online movies non-stop.

Lookout for these are symptoms :

  1. Staying up late to wee hours in the morning
  2. having difficulties to sleep well
  3. toss and turn at every hour
  4. keeping awake at the slightest noise
  5. waking up too early in the morning
  6. depression, anxiety, stress
  7. your eyes are closed but your brain is still rummaging ( very alert )
  8. unable to rest ( not in sleep mode ) at all.Difficulty falling asleep despite being tired
  9. waking up frequently during the night
  10. trouble getting back to sleep after awaken
  11. tiring sleep
  12. depending on sleeping pills or alcohol to fall asleep
  13. feeling irritable and moody
  14. drowsiness, fatigue, exhausted during the day
  15. hard to concentrate during the day

How to cure insomnia?

In order to cure insomnia, all you have to do is to change your daily routines and lifestyle in right order. Therefore, you don't have to rely on medications to cure insomnia.

Firstly, you have to find out the root of your insomnia problem at an early stage and get rid of it once and for all.

Here are 8 tips I had tried, tested on my insomnia problem and had worked out well for the past one month.

These are the tips that I had used to reduce my sleeping problems.

However, whether they work for you or not, depends on your ability to rectify your daily lifestyle and kick out the bad habits.

The truth is, it depends on your self reliance, perseverance, remove the objects that may be the cause to disturb your sleep and have confidence in yourself.

Remember, Never Give Up!

#1- Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol

  • Don’t drink alcoholic drinks, coffee or tea before bed time. Preferably 1-2 hours before you hit the bed. I know that some people are addicted to coffee or tea and surprisingly could put them to sleep. Ironically, it puts me wide awake until 5am in the morning!

  • Drink hot cocoa, hot chocolate or warm milk 1 hour before you sleep. Love the smell of chocolate, aromatic !

#2- Visit the Toilet Before Sleeping

  • Pee first before you sleep. You don’t like getting up in the middle of your sleep to release your bowel,right?

  • You can’t get back to sleep after flushing out.

  • It is difficult to get back to your sleep after your body is awake. Toss and turn will make you wide awake instead.

#3 - Remove All Electronic Gadgets In The Bedroom

  • Do not put your cellphone, Ipad, laptop, computer, TV ( any electronic gadgets) in your bedroom.

  • Do not use these electronic gadgets 30 minutes before bedtime.

  • Your mind will not rest as you keep having the vision of the scenes that you had watched, the work you had done that kept bothering you

  • Allow your brain to rest, get ready for bed in a comfortable and relaxing mood.

#4- Remove clocks

  • Do not use analog alarm clock, the one that goes “tick, tock, tick tock” in the bedroom.

  • If counting the sheep does not work, neither would the ticking clock.

  • The needle clock has the heart beat rhythm sound that sounds alike a ticking bomb. It will induce anxiety and irritation.

  • Use digital clock with dim lights on and face it away from your bed, preferably place it on your writing desk.

#5- Avoid bedroom quietness

  • Sleeping in a quiet bedroom may not help one to fall asleep easily. You may hear a "ringing" sound that goes “EEEEEE” sound in your ear drum.

  • Turn on the ceiling fan, exhaust fan, air purifier or air-conditioner.

  • Let the propeller sound buzz throughout the night.

  • An air purifier helps to cleanse the air borne in your bedroom. It rotates the smelly air in your bedroom.

  • You will feel better and breathe in cleaner air. ( Turn the farting odor and bad breathe into neutral air)

#6- Massaging

  • Rub a little ointment, cream, lotion for muscular pain or simple backache.

  • Although you may not have any of these ailments, you will feel the burning sensation on the back of your neck as if someone is massaging it.

  • It is a cool effective method to put you to sleep. ( I used Deep Heating Mentholatum-Pain Relieving Rub, Made in USA).

#7- Avoid Exercise Workout

  • Avoid jogging, cycling, playing sports or performing vigorous exercise before bedtime. This will keep you wide awake instead. The endorphins can cause your brain to stimulate for several hours.

  • Avoid deep conversation, discussions or arguments before bedtime. You will keep thinking of the issues in your brain.

  • Keep the lights low, focus on slow and easy tasks such as listening to soothing classic music ( instrumental music works out well for me).

  • Reading a boring book to doze off but avoid interesting or scary book because you won't be sleeping at all.

#8- If your can't fall asleep..

  • Last method if you had no choice, you REALLY, REALLY can’t get to sleep at all, even it is 3am in the morning, try watching the movies online until the next morning.

  • Then, force yourself not to sleep the whole day by doing some physical activities (such as gardening, household chores, baking, watch movies again ) until the evening.

  • Unfortunately, you may have a pair of zombie eyes throughout the day, irritating mood but that is the best way to put you to sleep at night comfortably.

I pretty much follow your 8 ways to cure insomnia...not that insomnia is what I have. I fall asleep naturally, every night, using your 8 tips regularly. They work! A restful sleep is what results. I feel really sorry for the folks for whom your tips don't work.
