A new Knee; A lot of pain and a weird week without Wikinut

My Week away from Wikinut, this is my diary of events and one very nearly disastrous visitor, but I still love her.

The arrival

Back at last, I have just spent a week without Wikinut, or at least I will have had by the time I get to the end of this article.
Day One
With fingers crossed, I arrived at the hospital with my trusty notebook and mobile phone in tow, one way or another I was determined at least, to be able to read my e-mails and who knows I might even be able to do a little writing as well, It had gone through my mind to write some sort of diary, so here goes .

The distance between my home and the hospital is 14.8 miles; this should take around 30 minutes and as my appointment was for 7.15 am I left home at 6.30am allowing a little time to find a parking a place etc.

A long wait

On arrival I was whisked into the x-ray department for one final x-ray and a blood test, it did go through my mind that if they do any more blood tests they will have more of my blood then I have lol
I was then informed that my surgeon had eight operations to do that day and I was number eight OMG! It looked like I would not be going in till that evening, I did inform the nurse that I hadn’t eaten since 8 pm the evening before, so by the time midday came my tummy had thought my neck had been cut, but at least I was allowed a sip of water up to midday.

All done and dusted

I was wheeled into the operating theatre, it was decided that, as I had had previous heart problems a local anaesthetic would be used, this meant I would be awake during the operation, the operation, “A total knee replacement” the op. took around an hour and a half, I was told it all went as planned, that was the easy bit for me, now came a week of painful physiotherapy and exercises.
During the first day it was a matter of getting used to the feel of my new knee, I had all sorts of tubes sticking out of me, one was a blood transfusion so at least I was getting back some of the blood those legalized vampires had taken from me, I was told they actually use blood taken from my knee during the operation, wow how cool is that.

The nurse came to re-dress my wound so I quickly took a picture with my phone so you could see how it was.

The next few days and a visitor

I had a visitor in that evening, it was Dolly Ducktail and David, it was great to see them but after five minutes I began to feel faint it was then David pointed out that Dolly was standing on my lifeline, hahaha typical Dolly.

Day two will be my first whole day of intense exercise

I never thought the pain would be so bad, Day Three and Four were very , much the same, I was finally allowed to go home on Sunday night, I am hoping to get back to moderating bit by bit, sometime on Monday, hope you lot have been OK and behaving yourselves.

I can imagine the pain on your knee as I see the pic. I had an operation on my spine about 8 years ago and had bone transplant at the same time due to my slipped disk. I hope you get well soon. Thank you.

Johnny, I was also operated on my left knee, called arthroscopic surgery (hope got the spelling right) to get the damaged miriscus (whatever) out. Not that I was getting old because of that..lol (sorry Johnny). Just that it hadn't been right to lift weights more than my legs, or knee, could bear. Better the woman bear your weight than you your own, said the doctor..Oops..lol

Get well soon, Johnny Android.:-) We missed you!

That's pretty graphic, Johnny. IN Yiddish, "Refuah shloma"... roughly, "May you heal completely and quickly."

Johnny, I am so sorry for all the pain you are now going through. After going through with this surgery with my husband 6 years ago, I know how hard it is, bless your heart. Please, I am begging you, do NOT go light on your exercise, the pain now will make for a easier healing process throughout this all. I have been out for the last week or so very sick, lordy it seems if a bug comes around I get it. I came to delete my messages (sorry folks but I must) in my inbox and saw you had written this piece. Bless you and yours, you and your family are in my prayers. Listen to your physical therapist, I mean it! Your friend,
Denise

Johnny my friend I send you hugs and get well wishes. I have nursed a guy friend through two knee replacements (done on separate occasions and separate knees) it can be awful but know these days in 6 weeks you can be up and walking around. Remember to stretch reguarly and wash it with a saline solution each day.

Dear Johnny,
My only goodest UK friend, poet philosopher and so on…
I have almost forgotten
what I wanted to say...

well any way since I'm typing today
glad to say that you did not have to write
A Will...
else all docs would’ve run away
and left you with sutures array
as you would have shown them
you had no will but freedom to ask of them
to operate upon your knee,
as you say without being put to sleep …
else it’d ...would’ve been up to God
to let you come and at these guys altar
once again to pray.
Happy the local anesthesia saved your pathway...
Sorry to add
you had and have a painful stay
and I sprinkle salt on your knees
ere they fray

Johnny: David should have been watching where Dolly planted her webbed feet, Dear Johnny, you have been through a lot. I wonder why they didn't give you morphine for the pain. There is a procedure that you control yourself but only up to a certain point. I wish I was there to pour you a nice cup of tea with scones and cream. Love, Ivyevelyn.

Johnny Ducktail, should take care of the rubber duckie of yours, seriously...
Those knee surgeries are painful and you are never the same again when it comes to walking around.
Take care. I thought it planned in December shocked it happened only in April, guess that is the NHS for you, the long waiting times for surgeries...
