Aren't we adults to know what's good for us?

To quit smoking, one only needs to be convinced oneself without interference or biased propaganda.

Aren't we adults to know what's good for us?

The first time I saw a shop selling electronic cigarettes, I thought 'How silly it is to be sucking on a cigarette that has no tobacco, releasing fake smoke!'
Firstly, they launch this worldwide campaign seemingly to warn us about smoking and many people believed it at heart not knowing really much about tobacco and illnesses supposedly related to it. They just go round repeating what they've read on such and such newspaper or magazine or they've watched on TV.
'Smoking kills'
'Smoking damages your health' If I could tell what really damages my health!
The campaigners against smoking are getting strong, because they know that governments back them up. They don't want teenagers to start smoking. Thus, they've obliged to patrons to install a device that will block the machine. they've banned the ten cigarette packs that used to be cheaper, so, teenagers won't be able to buy the 20's ones, or so they think, but they don't know that teenagers will smoke and drink if they wish. They forget that the teens is a stage that one wants to try it all and teenagers will piss on rules and regulations.
They imposed the smoking ban, but then someone thought of making business out of those that meant to quit smoking and created the electronic cigarettes worldwide.
To give up a habit takes time, but, above all, it takes guts and being convinced by ourselves without interference nor biased propaganda.
Since this campaign started worldwide, I've always thought that it's a way of the oligarchy backed up by governments to take us on the path and lifestyle they want us to be.
Don't smoke, because it's bad for you, they'll tell us, using all their means.
Eat healthy, but use the food we want you to eat.
And many other trends that come up on the market day by day.
Aren't we adults to know what is good for us or not without governmental advice?
As a friend of mine who has never smoked a cigarette told me about such campaign 'You know? Any day, I'll ask the State to put me nappies?'
But worry not. There're always be smart folks to try to make business out of a situation such as creating electronic cigarettes or nicotine patches. Whatever!

I guess you need to go visit all the people who have lung cancer, or a tracheotomy smoking is bad for your health.

I've seen some folks like this and I've also seen people suffering from mental illnesses that had nothing to do with tobacco. Actually, on these days, there are many sort of cancers as there haven't been in the past and remember that science or medicine aren't neutral. There may be some honest scientists or doctors, but many of those aren't neutral.

I am all in favour of the "nanny state" if it stops people smoking, and I really don't mind what methods it uses to achieve this aim.

The health implications of smoking are huge and consume far too many scarce resources in terms of health services. Smoking also damages the health of non-smokers, through passive smoking - and this is especially bad for children of smokers.

People don't always know what's best for them, and it is am important role of government to protect people from their own stupidity.

The trouble with this nanny State is that they'll be keen to allegedly protect us but in fact they won't when they implement harsh cuts on public expenditure such as in health care system, education and all these assets that are necessary for a majority particularly those who have less. The gap between the rich and the poor is starting to be dangerously big. Their stance is pure hipocresy.

You can't equate the two things in this way. It surely does not make sense to say: "You cannot do something that is right because you are also doing things that are wrong". I fail to see the logic behind such an argument.

You may feel there's no logic, but there is.
