Did you know that reading is therapeutic to a child suffering from illness? Read on.

Reading To a Sick Child Is Therapeutic

Reading to a sick child is excellent therapy. The modulation of your own voice will be very soothing to him or her. No radio, or television programs, regardless of their number, will ever take your place, although they can be a help to the child; but the young mind needs food for thought. Good stories that have cheerful endings are best for any child. The words should be easy for the child to understand. Young children love to hear the same favorite story time after time. This is food for a developing mind.

Do not whisper in the presence of a sick child. Maybe he is already afraid. Seeing you whispering will only increase his fears. He may begin to wonder whether he is going to die. If you must hold a discussion, it is better to do it elsewhere.

You may read to him verses from the Scriptures and teach him to pray, or pray with your child. This will bring him real comfort during the lonely hours of the night. There are many fine medicines available today, but love, kindness, and understanding will heal more hurts and relieve more anxiety that any other medicines we have.
