"Give a girl the right lipstick, and she can conquer the world."

Introduction

Somebody once famously put it: "give a girl the right lipstick, and she can conquer the world." Although this isn't literal, wearing a bold, new lippie can make you feel like you can conquer the world. The perfect pop of color can do so much for your look!

But before you hit the streets flaunting your new favorite color, you have to find which shade suits you best. Here's your handy-dandy guide to finding the right lipstick for your skin tone!

Skin Color

Basic Skin Color Chart

First, check out the chart above & know your basic skin color. Are you light, medium, dark, or in between? If you are medium/ dark, for example, pick lipstick shades under medium and dark, and try assess how they look with your skin tone. If your not able to find a beauty store nearby to swatch lipsticks, there are many online resources like Mary Kay Virtual Makeover, where you can try on lipstick virtually.

Light

Sometimes, picking out makeup for lighter skin tones can be a bit tricky. For lip colors, try sticking with rosy pinks, soft browns, and nudes to prevent making your skin looked washed out. Although wearing a lipstick that's too dark usually doesn't do anything for your skin tone, there will be times when you'll successfully pull it off and it'll look amazing.

Try: Naked Peach and Tea Time Creme Luxe Lipsticks by BH Cosmetics

Try: Sable Matte Lipstick by NYX

Try: Color Sensational - The Buffs in Bare All by Maybelline

Medium

Medium skin tones can be a little less hard to tackle. Since most people fall into this category, there is a huge variety of shades you can rock. Try clean, clear shades that have a neutral undertone to play up your look. These shades include, but are not limited to, classic reds and hot pinks.

Try: MAC Lipstick in Mind Control

Try: Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Matte Orchid

Dark

Darker skin is very versatile when it comes to looking for lipsticks! Bold shades of lipstick contrast beautifully with the tone of your skin. Try something daring like plum hues or deep reds.

Try: Butter Lipstick in Hunk by NYX

Try: Nars Lipstick in Red Lizard

All in All

Although other aspects, like undertone, can affect the way a certain color looks on your skin, this guide is meant to give you a basic idea of which lipsticks usually suit your skin tone. Play around and experiment with different pigments, and wear whatever makes you feel confident!
