Lung Cancer and Acupuncture

Modern medical methods have made it possible for nearly all types of cancers to be treated or controlled, provided the disease is detected early enough and the treatment is carefully planned. This is the reason why lung cancer is difficult to treat, much less cure. Lung cancer is very prone to spread and causes no distinctive early symptoms other than chronic cough, which an average smoker has anyway.

Outside of the various medical and surgical procedures done in hopes of curing lung cancer, there is a type of therapy - called acupuncture - that is enjoying fairly widespread acceptance. Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine, and is in fact the oldest system of medicine known. It makes use of very fine sterilized needles inserted into the skin at specific points. These are then manipulated or, in some cases, a weak electric current is passed through them.

Acupuncture is not, however, suited to the treatment of acute illnesses. For reasons not yet fully understood, the therapy works effectively for some people but not for others. In many cases, lung cancer, by the time it is diagnosed, has already passed the stage of probable cure. Of course, it isn't hard to understand that a person with lung cancer will try everything to rid himself of the malady.

The medical field is careful when it comes to using the term "cure" where lung cancer, or any type of cancer for that matter, is concerned. This is because recurrence is always possible with cancers. Even surgery, perhaps the oldest and still the primary form of cancer treatment, is not a guaranty for cure.
