Yes, Reading about health on the internet can harm you .

Ways in which people harm themselves

There are many ways in which people may harm themselves through consuming online health information. We hear good things everywhere about high protein diet in weight loss and body reducing and bodybuilding, health benefits of coffee alcohol and chocolate, dairy products, fruits, nuts etc. So, if someone uses these information, and end up having problems who is to be blamed.

A Silent Escape from the Blame.

There are situations when people may actually harm themselves. No wonder all health websites put up a disclaimer ” Use at your own risk and blah..blah ..blah”. The websites escape from the effects of their inappropriate information provided to everyone and in serious matters concerning health , the information needs to be published only with the moderation of a certified medical professional.

Precaution

As we know how online health information might benefit people, or may cause harm. The goldenrule for all people with any kind of disease condition ,or signs and symptom could be to ” talk to your doctor regarding any health information you want to use, or you don’t want to use”.

Affected People

1. A person with diarrhea from food poisoning reads ” Milk is good for bodybuilding and weight loss”; he goes and drinks milk resulting in worsening of his diarrhea. NIH says with regard to food poisoning, “.. avoid dairy products, which can worsen diarrhea (due to a temporary state of lactose intolerance)”.

2. Someone with gout reads ” How to loose weight in 4 weeks at home ?”. She starts the training and suffers from acute attack of gout. Mayoclinic says, “.. However, avoid fasting and rapid weight loss because these can promote a gout attack…..Also avoid high-protein diets, which can cause you to produce too much uric acid”.

3. A pregnant women reads “Health benefits of Coffee”. She starts drinking 12 ounce cup of brewed coffee everyday. Her baby is born with low birth weight. She wonders,” why ?”. Mayoclinic cites, “..a large 2008 study suggests that 200 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day — about a 12-ounce cup (354 milliliters) of brewed coffee — during pregnancy may slow fetal growth”.

4. Someone with kidney problem reads,” High protein diet for weight loss”. He starts taking protein powder and suffers kidney failure. Mayoclinic says, “..A high-protein diet may cause or worsen liver or kidney problems because your body may already have trouble eliminating all the waste products of protein metabolism”

Conclusion

So , Everyone please listen to your doctors and dont ever believe online health information which causes your health and dont ever prescribe medicines on your own , even an aspirin in that case.

this applies to people who look up information on most things. Never fully trust the Internet, anyone can claim to be a doctor.
