This article focuses on care of a Brown Recluse spider bit. What you can do at home to treat the bite. What to look for and possible medical treatments.

Care of Spider Bite

My knowledge of spider bites comes from the fact that I have been bitten 4 times.
My first bite was really bad. I had no idea what it was or how to care for it. Needless to say I was in intense pain for about a week and it took nearly 3 weeks to heal. I have a quarter size scar to remind me.
At first I thought the bite was a boil and so naturally I tried warm moist compress. Bad idea! If you suspect a spider bite your first and most important treatment should be ice. This keeps the venom from spreading. Using warm packs actually causes your blood vessels to open and allows the venom to spread.
There is a period of time about 48 hours of intense pain. This is when the venom is killing and destroying living tissue. After that is when a black necrotic spot will appear. You should cover this with a band aid. Depending on the size you may have to use a really big band aid. Change this out at least 2 times a day. The dead tissue will begin to smell! Like any rotten flesh smells foul. The necrotic area will tend to stick to the band aid and you will eventually pull the core out just by removing the band aid.
Now depending on how deep of a hole the core leaves, some require packing with gauze. If you feel the need to go to the Dr. they will usually give you an antibiotic. They may want to remove the debris from the wound as well, and then pack the wound.
I hope you never need this information, but here it is in case you do. Til next time...Stay healthy
