Catatonic schizophrenia disorder is a mental illness where there is an unusual or incorrect perception of reality that is affected by a psychic and motor disturbance syndrome.

It is characterized with delusions and hallucinations matched with uncategorized speech and manifests with inconsistency in social behavior.

Common Symptoms of Acute Stress Disorder

Catatonic excitement is a particular condition experienced by these patients. It refers to importunate baseless demonstration. Hyperactivity is an activity that does not yield anything constructive but it could be source of aggression and fear. Among the basic indicators of catatonic schizophrenia are neglect of personal hygiene, lack of emotional substance, outburst of madness and wrath, unproductively functioning at school or work, social seclusion and inept and uncoordinated movements. Repetition of nonsensical phrases and imitating another person are also manifested symptoms.
Major Cause
Excessive social withdrawal attributed by extreme hallucinations and intense fear to experience rejection and isolation or anything that cause paranoia. If these manifestations are ignored, it may lead to catatonic schizophrenia. There was story by a certain young adult aging 21 years old; he experienced isolation from other people because of his delusions on something which coupled with fear. When he was admitted in a hospital and the psychiatrist found out that he was suffering from catatonic schizophrenia because he manifested some inappropriate behaviors and actions. His countenance was very distinguished and he walked backward that was unusual for a normal person.
The volition of the patient to accept that he or she is afflicted by the mental disorder is a significant step in the treatment. Futility of medications will likely happen if the individual with catatonic schizophrenia is rigid and less motivated to get better. There are various treatment choices available for catatonic schizophrenia such as medication, hospitalization, electroconvulsive therapy, vocational skills training, and psychotherapy.
