Heart health - very vital

There are a lot of misconceptions about heart health. It may be due to the media promotions of the commercial world. Heart health is very important and needs to be maintained carefully.

Heart health is the most important part of life. In the modern hectic lifestyle, it is the most affected one. People have a lot of misconceptions about heart health. They are misled by the health headlines found in the media advertisements.

Heart-health misunderstood

They are confused with the changing recommendations of health experts. Here are some of the most misunderstood facts about heart health.

1) Heart attack starts with a chest pain
When there is a pain in the chest area, especially among the elderly people, it is misunderstood for a heart attack. In fact, many heart attacks start with discomfort, such as pressure, squeezing or a kind of fullness in the chest area. Some heart attacks never show any symptom in the chest area at all, but may appear with a pain in the upper parts of the body and discomfort in the arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach. There may also be other symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea or cold sweats.

2) Smoking hurts only lungs and not hearts
Many people associate smoking only to the lungs and they think that it does not do anything with the heart. Although smoking causes great risk to the lungs, it does develop coronary heart disease. Even secondhand-smoking causes danger to the heart health.

3) Limited exercise will be enough for heart health
Some people stop with some moderate exercises recommended by the government departments for heart health. Formal gym session may not be enough for the health of the heart. One has to move around and do some extra practices such as frequent walks for 15 minutes.

4) Heart health is only men’s problem
There is a great misconception that only men are affected by heart attacks or other heart problems than women. They are not aware that cardiovascular diseases include hypertension, increased cholesterol and other conditions that affect heart health.

5) Eating a lot of chocolate will help heart health
There are many ads boosting chocolate products saying that dark chocolate is good for heart health. Too much of anything may create problems. If it is eaten in large quantity, it may lead to unwanted increase in weight and affect heart health.
