Daisy is a frail elderly old lady who needs support and help. But is there anyone out there who has the time to think about her/ Read on to find out more

Don't Forget About her

Daisy pulled the blanket around her, trying not to shiver. She didn't think she could afford to have the gas fire on all day, she had been brought up not to waste money, it was inside her, that feeling she had to be thrifty.

After all Daisy had been through a war, used to scrimping and scraping, and brought up 4 children of her own. They had all done so well in their lives, all clever with good jobs, and busy lives, which didn't include her very often. Not that she was bitter, she was over 80 years old, couldn't go far these days, she didn't expect much more from life than to be in her home away from the cold winds and rain.

She knew her sight was failing.

Her eyes were letting her down, she knew she was losing her sight, which did bother her. She wondered how long it would be before she was too scared to walk up to the corner shop to buy her food, just in case she couldn't see to cross the road safely.

Her legs and back weren't too clever either, it was just easier to sit here, in the familiar surroundings of her home and her arm chair where she felt safe. She had long given up trying to cook, the kitchen and the cooker held all sorts of terrors for her, so she lived on sandwiches and anything that was easy to prepare.

She felt a wave of fear go through her, life was getting too hard to deal with, and she had no-one she could talk to who she felt would understand. Not only that, it was her pride. Daisy had always been independent, and to admit she wouldn't cope any more was just to much to bear. She pulled the blanket closer round her, today was her birthday, and nobody knew except her, and somehow it seemed, nobody cared either.

Daisy is just one person in this situation. Her kids should be ashamed of themselves and their selfishness.

Heart-rending story but becoming common. Increasingly, in Asia, this is happening. Traditional family set-up, called joint families, are breaking up where multi-generational families lived under one roof. Now family is parents and children only. Not a healthy way. Thanks for the share, Carol - siva
