Exercise is vital to your health from the inside out. You can do it! Once your doctor clears you for outdoor fitness, join me in the quest for better health. Cheers to our success!!

Gym membership not required

Remember the New Year’s resolution that you made to exercise more frequently? Aren’t you tired of seeing the gym membership fee on your monthly statement; knowing that you are not using it? The good news is that if you fell off the workout wagon, you can re-commit EFFECTIVE TODAY with no gym membership needed. May through October are awesome months to exercise outdoors.

Five simple recommendations that helped me re-establish my exercise commitment:

1. Walk – It is recommended that you walk at least 30 minutes each day for five days each week. Start at a moderate pace; enough to get your heart rate up. After a few weeks transition to power walking (which is a bit more rapid than a moderate pace).
2. Jog/run – Intervals may be ideal to start. Using one of the many free applications on a Smartphone will help to improve your pace over time. This activity should be done 2-3 times each week.
3. Bicycle/skate – This is another excellent cardio activity that should be done 2-3 times each week.
4. Join a cause – Whether it’s adopting a highway, ridding riverbanks of debris, or another physical, volunteer activity; get out and get involved.
5. Start parking your vehicle farther from the closest entrance – The extra steps that you will have to take walking there and back will give you an opportunity to burn more calories.

There is no time like the present

Whether your employer offers incentives for achieving better fitness, you are striving for a personal goal, or your aim is a healthier lifestyle change making up your mind to take control of your health via exercise is one of the best decisions that you could make for yourself. Once your mind is made up your body will follow. Tomorrow you will wish that you had started today.
