Too many people think that fitness is about owning a gym card. Wrong! You can be just as fit without it!

What am I talking about?

Forget the expensive Gym membership. Use those feet!

The uncomfortable truth of the credit crunch has begun to bite people’s fitness.

Saving money has made many people sacrifice some of life’s luxuries. One of the first things to go when the the credit crunch struck was the expensive gym membership and people’s fitness suffers.

But this shouldn’t be the case. You have legs!

You don’t need this, you can do it on your own!

Go for a run.

It is as simple as that. Most of us have legs. If you go running outside for 30 minutes, you will do exactly the same amount of exercise as 30 minutes on a treadmill in an expensive gym. You may not see the blinking lights which tell you all the eccentric details of gradient, km/hour and average biscuit consumption.

The embarrassment factor.

I have been told by some people that they go to the gym because they are too embarrassed to go outside for a run. What? Running has apparently become an embarrassing thing because in our society, looking tired, breathing hard and sweating is heinous outside of a brightly lit room full of people in Lycra.

If you are one of those people, here is what to do. Wear sunglasses. A study was done which showed people are less self conscious when they wear sunglasses. Without people looking into your eyes, our primal instincts make us feel more confident.

Stretching

A thoroughly underrated activity. It helps flexibility and muscle ability. If you can stretch well, your exercises will be better. You can do it before and after activities to maximise your work.

Weightlifting

Find some physical exercise you can do in the house. If you want muscle tone, you should do something repeatedly. Move the furniture around your appartment once a week. Or do two things at once.

One possible idea: Take a metal can of food in each hand. Hold it out parallel to the floor. Watch a tv program, only resting your arms when the adverts begin.

Find something heavy in your place and lift it alot. Paperweights, books, etc. You just need to think about

Keep encouraging yourself

Without a gym, it is likely you will not have personal trainer on hand to help you. This is where you must become your own trainer. Shout at yourself, goade yourself. Also, offer yourself treats. If you have a goal, then it will be easier to train than having an endless road of exercise without any reason.

If you really have to Buy some equipment cheaply.

If you look over Ebay or local free ads you may find exercise equipment going cheap. Just keep your ears to the ground, you can probably find dumb bells very cheaply. Search the net for exercise tips and you may never need the gym again.

Overall, don’t forget to run. It is free. Man has moving since the dawn of Man, you don’t need a gym to do it!
