Contrary to some recommendations that have been spread over the past decades, several studies have begun to reassess the nutritional benefits of animal fats. Here we tell you more about this debate, what types of fats are, what to avoid and why sugar has become the new "guilty."

Reduce your fat intake.

One of the main recommendations when a healthy diet is to reduce your fat intake, not least because such use may promote the development of heart disease and , for example, to increase your levels of blood cholesterol .

However, not all fats are created equal and some are considered healthier than others , such as unsaturated fats , which help to increase levels of good cholesterol. These unsaturated fats are monounsaturated fats , found in nuts , seeds, avocados and some oils such as olive , canola and sunflower , and polyunsaturated fats, which are abundant in corn kernels , cottonseed and safflower oils and flax, in beans, beans or bean sprouts in soy or soy oils , margarines and shellfish .

The saturated fat , however , are those which are usually solid at room temperature such as those found in animal meat and dairy products (eg , butter or butter, cheese and cream ) and have been associated with an increase in bad cholesterol and therefore with heart problems .

Several studies have recently begun to rethink the nutritional value of animal fats . Moreover, in a new article in the medical journal British Medical Journal ( BMJ) , Aseem Malhotra, one of the most prestigious UK cardiologists and specialist Croydon University Hospital in London concluded that saturated fats from butter , cheese or red meat are not as harmful to the heart as previously thought .

According to Malhotra , the consumption of low-fat products has increased " paradoxically " the risk of cardiovascular disease . How is this possible? Mainly because the meager products have less flavor and, develop them , industries added more sugar and sweeteners them to enhance the flavors .

Thus, which has occupied the top spot in the alert is currently the sugar, which is found in many products, not just in candy but also others that go unnoticed , as in certain types ketchup sauces or barbecue. For example, if the labels include any of these names , is because it contains sugar :

Agave nectar ( or mead , English , agave nectar ) .
Syrup or brown rice syrup (brown rice syrup ) .
Dextrose ( dextrose )
Evaporated cane juice ( evaporated cane juice )
Glucose ( glucose )
Lactose ( lactose )
Syrup , honey or malt syrup ( malt syrup )
Molasses ( molasses )
Sucrose ( sucrose )

And if the product package you are about to buy any of these ingredients appears in the top of the list or if it contains more than 4 total grams of sugar, it may be better to avoid it .

But back to fat , is that you can now eat a steak without guilt ? As long as you do not overdo it and know to distinguish between a piece of grilled meat and a fried one . Why? Because fried foods contain trans fats which remain part of the list of foods that should be best avoided.

Trans fats also make up the group of unsaturated fats , but are not healthy as mono and polyunsaturated . This is because trans fats increase the risk of developing heart problems. They are found in hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils and products containing these oils, such as cookies, cakes , donuts (donuts ) and fried foods in general.

Many specialists from various parts of the world join this new suggestion. So learn to distinguish fats in foods and choose healthier options . And of course , when it comes to fat reminds you to consume in moderation ( and do not forget that the Mediterranean diet is still very healthy for the heart ) .

It is important that you learn how to properly read labels on products and you will avoid those that contain a lot of sugar . And do not forget that there are many foods that are not processed that are very healthy. Moreover, if you want to keep your heart healthy, it is also desirable to avoid too much sodium (salt). And of course, remember to include an exercise routine daily. It is the ideal way to improve your quality of life and live better longer combination .
