Foot conditions are of different types and caused due to many reasons. Read on to know about five foot conditions that can affect your feet.

Dry Skin

The most common foot condition that affects the feet is dry skin. Once the skin becomes dry it tends to crack easily, this can become very painful when you walk. Moreover the cracks act as openings for germs to enter and cause infections.

Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses are thickening of the skin that can be very painful. Corns and calluses form due to tight fitting shoes or shoes that do not fit properly. When your feet keeps rubbing against your shoes for a long time then corns and calluses tend to develop.

Corns and calluses can form on the sole of the foot, on area of skin outside the small toe or between the fourth and the fifth toes. The corns that occur between the toes are not hard but are soft and whitish. They are called soft corns.

Warts

Warts are skin growths that are caused by the Human Papplioma Virus (HPV). HPV enters the skin through cracks on the skin and infect the top layer. Once they infect the top layer of the skin, it begins to grow out like a protrusion.

Warts can grow anywhere on the skin. They are mostly painless but warts that occur beneath the foot or on a finger are painful.

Bunions

Bunions occur when the joint at the base of the big toe develops a sideways protrusion. This deformity is called Hallux Valgus or bunion. When this happens the big toe is pushed over and on top of the other toes.

The skin over the bunion will rub against the shoes and can cause pain and inflammation. Proper footwear helps to ease painful conditions caused by bunions. Bunions may be due to genetics but the real cause is unknown. Wearing proper fitting shoes help to ease the pain.

Hammertoes

Hammertoes is a condition of the feet that is caused by shortening of the muscle tendons of the toes. In this condition the toe is bent at the middle joint and resembles a hammer.

In this condition the knuckle of the toe enlarges and pulls the toe back. When this happens the knuckle keeps rubbing against the top portion of the shoes and becomes inflamed and enlarged.

Wearing shoes along with stockings and plenty of room for the feet may help to ease pain due to Hammertoes.

Spurs

Spurs is a foot condition that occurs when calcium starts depositing on the bones of the foot. This can happen when there is constant pressure on the feet like running, dancing or from being overweight. Wearing shoes that do not fit properly can also cause spurs.

Heel spurs

Heel spurs can occur due to excess strain on the foot muscles and ligament over a long time. It can also be due to any abnormal stretching of the band of tissue that connects the heel and the ball of the foot. This can make walking very painful.

Heel spurs form on the back or the underside of the feet. Over time this causes the formation of calluses on the affected area to provide extra cushioning. When the extra cushioning starts to press against the nearby ligament, tendons or nerves it causes swelling and tearing of skin. This can be very painful.

Plantar Fascilitis

Plantar Fascilitis occurs when the area beneath the feet is inflamed and tender causing pain. In this condition, walking can be very painful and the pain can travel along the foot as you walk.
