There are two main reasons why you shouldn’t hesitate to get that appointment any longer.

Intro

People get used to pain very quickly and they somehow start treating that discomfort like if it were a normal state, day after day. It doesn’t really matter if it’s about teeth, back pain or, in this case – leg pain – people are too busy or too scared to visit their doctor.

There are two main reasons why you shouldn’t hesitate to get that appointment any longer. First of all, each day that goes by is a day longer, filled with pain and discomfort – why should you continue to torture yourself? Secondly, that time you spend avoiding your problem only allows it to increase, and that is how harmless health issues turn into serious diseases, which is something you definitely don’t want to happen.

Problems with Muscles?

Stretching and keeping your muscles active is quite important, but we often under or overdo it. If you find yourself troubled by cramps, this probably implies that your muscles are way too tired or that they are dehydrated and lack certain minerals. You should be able to get rid of that pain by drinking water, using magnesium supplements and massaging that part of your leg gently until the pain goes away.

Now, if you were standing, walking or running for an amount of time that’s unusually long for you, it’s quite common to have issues with shin splints. When over-forced, this section of your leg gets inflamed, and it’s quite important to get off your feet and remove all unnecessary pressure. You should be able to solve this with some ice and anti-inflammatory meds, but don’t hesitate to go to your doctor if the pain continues.

Another very painful problem that also appears if you overwork your lower legs is related to the Achilles tendon, placed just above your heel, which can stretch or swell and even tear. This problem should be taken seriously because it might stick around, and in some cases, a surgery is required in order to repair the damage.

Troubles with Veins and Clots?

Symptoms like leg pain in the form of cramping, itching or burning, combined with swelling and followed by the change of texture on your legs makes you a candidate for vein treatments. You might be dealing with varicose veins, venous insufficiency or reflux, so you should answer a couple of questions to learn what kind of care you need.

Clots are a result of a process in which the blood thickens and clogs the vein. This may occur while you’re inactive for a certain period of time, and chances for this happening significantly increase if you are a smoker or if you’re overweight. This isn’t something that should be taken lightly – a clot can move around your bloodstream and find its way to your lungs, heart or brain. If you think that you have this problem, you should contact your doctor right away.

Issues with Nerves?

Experiencing numbness, a burning pain that goes from your lower leg to your hip, feeling weak and constantly battling with fatigue may indicate serious problems that come directly from nerves, and problems such as spine arthritis. This is treated with anti-inflammatory meds and a healthy amount of resting – lying down too much may increase your problems.

What you should do is some serious stretching, but it needs to be done slowly and carefully, so that you don’t increase the damage. Naturally, you need to consult your doctor and see if a medical intervention is necessary.

What Can I Do to Avoid Leg Pain?

Adopting healthy habits is the way to go. You should take baby steps and start with eating healthy – you are what you eat, and you can’t expect your body to function properly if you fuel it with fast food. Being overweight puts unnatural pressure on your muscles and joints, which is why you need to manage it and spend some time in the gym. I’m sure you already know that bad habits are destroying your body silently, and before you do actually feel severe consequences, you need to act responsibly and quit them once and for all.

Like with other diseases, leg pain is a lot easier to treat if you contact your doctor while it’s in its early stages. There’s no point in prolonging your pain and you shouldn’t use a lack of free time as your excuse.
