Almost everyone at some points in their life suffers from an occasional flare up of acne. It is most prevalent among adolescents and in some others at any age due to hormonal changes, heredity, stress, or some medications having iodine, lithium, and anticonvulsants. But it is a myth that food items like chocolate, French fries and other high fat food cause acne or make it worse. Lifestyle related activities such as frequent face washing, tanning, etc., also do not protect people from acne.

Ensure you get a sufficient supply of nutrients to maintain clear skin

In fact a proper diet helps in maintaining a clear, glowing skin along with regular exercise and adequate sleep. Ensure your body gets sufficient supply of beta carotene, vitamins C and B6 and zinc.
Citrus fruits, berries, kiwis, melons, peppers, cabbage, broccoli and potatoes are rich in vitamin C. vitamin B6 is found in meat, fish, poultry, whole grains, beans, lentils , nuts, potatoes, bananas, and leafy greens, which may reduce the incidence of acne by helping regulate hormones implicated in the development of acne lesions. Seafood especially oysters meat, poultry, yogurt, milk and whole grains are rich in zinc. Of course limit kelp supplements, iodized salt and high doses of vitamins B6 and B12.they could aggravate acne symptoms. High doses of vitamin A can cause dry, flaking skin and hair loss.
Good nutrition is the first line of defense in avoiding acne.in addition, nonprescription drugs like 2.5% to 10% strength benzoyl peroxide gel, lotion or ointment can help control mild to moderate acne. For chronic acne problems, visit your dermatologist. Do not take any acne related drugs without a prescription.
