“Health is wealth” a phrase that corresponds to overall excellent health. A common phrase describing that sound health is prime importance above anything life’s pursuits such as career, bank account, education or possession.

Who would enjoy any of life’s luxuries or seven digit dollar pensions? if one day, as an old man, just confined and bedridden, ill stricken with diabetes and hypertension. No one can enjoy pleasures of life if his health suffers.

During the biblical times of Moses, people reach more than hundred to thousand years of age before dying. Diets, at that time include unadulterated fruits and vegetables and adequate supply of fresh water. At that time, pollution was nil, and the air is so fresh to breath. In contrast, presently, healthy individuals go beyond 50s, 60s, and 80s suffering from stroke, diabetes, hearth diseases, and forms of cancer and bone problems.

Today’s food quality and habit deviated from the past’s additive free vegetables. More chemicals that either potentially harmful or proven carcinogenic or poisonous still exists in most foodstuffs. Additionally, work related stress and pollution and bad personal health habits contributed to the lower life expectancy. Fortunately, there are habits and foods that can make up for sound mind and body. Some points below shows food and habits, good for health.

FOODS

Foods that have anti-cancer properties

• Broccoli – This flower like vegetable contains high amount of ascorbic acid, carotonoids, sulforaphane, all known as anti-oxidants and anticancer. Eating this vegetable has been shown to lower the risk of cancer incidence.

• Foods high in Resveratrol - Popularly found in grapes and red wine. This compound has been studied in laboratory trials and has a positive effect on fighting a certain virus, cancer and diseases such as diabetes. Aside from grapes and red wine, it can be found commercially, available in anti-aging supplements and anti-wrinkle supplements. In its concentrated form as reservatrol supplements, it exists as tablets or capsules.


• Citrus fruits – Grapefruit, lemon, rhubarb, calamondin, santol (sour apple) and tangerines. These fruits contain Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that can neutralize acids in the digestive system. As an anti-oxidant. It can help prevent the growth of cancer cells. Calamondin or calamansi is also used in skin care supplements to induce whitening and in Best anti-wrinkle supplements to reduce the effects of wrinkle causing free radicals.

• Foods rich in unsaturated fat and omega 3 fatty acids. Cod liver oil, hazelnut, flaxseed and krill are rich sources. Unsaturated fat or good fat does not raise bad cholesterol levels and definitely good for the heart. Significant source are peanut, avocado, oils from soybean and canola, nuts such as pistachio, macadamia, walnuts, almond, pecans and pistachios.

• Foods rich in Dietary fiber – Plant parts that are indigestible. It is good for digestive health because it prevents constipation and encourage easy waste movement. Almost all vegetables have fiber or indigestible content, namely – legumes, leafy and cruciferous vegetables, root crops, ferns and fruits.
