Coconut sprout has been a royal food which only the royal people could eat. Ayurveda, the ancient medicinal system of the east, has been using this part of coconut in many tonic medications.

Yu, the royal food

You can taste you. Looks absurd? “Yu” is nothing but the coconut sprout. The coconut sprout, the tastiest part of coconut, is called in Marshallese as "Yu". People living in tropical countries might have tasted a coconut sprout.

Sweet and juicy in taste, the coconut sprout looks like a big sponge like cotton candy mass. People call this sprout by various names, such as coconut apple, natural coconut marshmallow and coconut embryo. The coconut sprout is not only known for its taste, but also for its various health benefits.

A great nutrient

Enriched with health promoting properties, it contains many organic compounds. Ancient texts describe this as the best energizer. It is so powerful that only kings were allowed to taste it and the people of the Hawaiian Islands believed that their kings deserved such energy to share with the people of the kingdom.

Ayurveda, the ancient medicinal system of the east, has been using this part of coconut in many tonic medications.

Some of the benefits of coconut sprout

1) The coconut sprout balances the humors of the body system and keeps the body cool, at the proper temperature.

2) It is the best remedy for maintaining optimum weight. It may be a great boon for the obese people of the modern world.

3) It re-hydrates the body and helps a good blood circulation. It quenches thirst very easily. It refreshes the body as a natural refresher. It is a powerful snack after tedious exercises.

4) It can be used as a very delicious salad or smoothie.

Vpaulose: Thanks for the post. I came across one native somewhere who had a fever. He plugged two coconuts and finished up the water. The fever vanished within few hours! Research has been done on coconut, but we still have things to find out about it.

Coconut has served us well - it has been a real boon for our health, cooking oil, the wood and leaves for house construction. Coir yarn and carpet are derived from it too which lost ground earlier to plastic products Thanks VP for this informative post - siva
