Hiding in Plain Sight: America's Alternative Healthcare Practices

Saying and Thinking Matters

When it comes to alternative health practices, Americans have become more aware and less fearful of utilizing many ancient healing techniques. Like many other Americans, as my health care needs and cost increased, my allegiance to traditional American medicine decreased. So, I began seeking new avenues of healing especially since I was increasingly becoming unwell. Prior to studying the writings of Dr.Norman V. Peale, Joseph Murphy and Rev.Dr. Johnnie Colemon I was lackadaisical about what I said and sometimes thought. However, once I came to know better, I did better and the quality of my life has been changed. As a proponent of Positive Thinking, I have been persuaded of the benefits of mood modifications when faced with health challenges. Subconscious motivation has existed and been utilized for eons. Before the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, it was a closely guarded ancient universal law that there was power in the words we spoke and the thoughts we entertained. It has been a widely held belief by numerous non-traditional healthcare practitioners that positive words and positive thoughts are powerful and successful well-being tools.

Those who subscribe to adopting a metaphysical approach to empowerment in the area of health readily cite noted references from the Holy Bible (New Revised Standard Version) such as “The tongue of the wise brings healing.” ~ Proverbs 12:18 or “Then your light shall break forth like dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly.” ~Isaiah 58:8. Moreover, most Native peoples indigenous to North America traditionally sought non biomedical solutions for healing. Today, there is noted resurgence in the utilization of these proven ancestral ways. The old and the new have been successfully blended in methods like life-affirming ‘self-talk’ as well as cultural- based daily meditations and/or affirmations to promote and restore health.

To Your Health

Unbeknownst to most, many traditional American healthcare practitioners have also included Eastern modalities such as meditation and positive thought as part of their treatment plans for several decades. These innovated physicians are not threatened by including complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in their treatment plans. From our beginning to our ending the mind is constantly bombarded and influenced by stimuli outside of our awareness. Some are visual and others are audio. Unfortunately a vast majority of this audio messaging is negative. Once we are made aware of the debilitating effects of negative thoughts and words upon our emotional and physical health we have two choices. (1) Is reinforcing the negativity and succumbing to our dark thoughts or (2) to introduce and enforce the positive while rising above our challenges. Depending upon your learning styles and physical capabilities, it should not be difficult to determine which mood modification format would be of most benefit. Great success has been achieved by utilizing audio messaging as a self improvement technique.

Since, sound is the first of the five senses to come, perhaps an acknowledgement of our arrival upon this earthly journey and the last to leave, perhaps an acknowledgement of our departure its importance should not be overlooked. It is paramount to holistic healing. No matter what we are doing sound always commands our attention. Many sage metaphysicians are also aware that repetition creates persuasion and therefore adhere to the trusted standard behavior of external chants. Adopting a ritual of daily meditations is also important. Some of these non-traditional healing methods also employ the use of rhythmic affirmations. For the more advanced, the use of Affirmations + subliminal text (Binaural Beats) is a no brainer. The current trend in audio messaging touts the belief that affirmations of healing can be greatly enhanced via the use of stereo headsets. Although not conclusive, recent studies of Binaural Beats are nevertheless still promising. These studies reveal: Delta has been reported to ‘increase immune function’. Theta has been reported to ‘increase memory function’. Alpha has been reported to ‘increase relaxation’. If the lines of communication are open, why not ask your healthcare practitioner to share current information regarding the increasing role of subconscious motivation in promoting and restoring health. Who knows, you might luck up on a CAM. Be Welll!

Positive thoughts help a lot in healing. Specialization has led to less holistic healing. The more the powerful drugs the more they damage our vital organs that are healthy like kidney, liver etc. We need to stick to our own commonsense when the push comes to shove. Thanks for the useful and thought provoking share - siva

interesting article writestuff.

I recently have been reading a book about how words affect water crystals, called the hidden messages in water written by a Japanese scientist which agrees with much of what you say here.
