Healthy superfoods keep your body healthy, fit and strong. The following food items will help to lead a healthy life and keep your body free from heart disease, diabetes and cancer. They also boost your immune system and help you loose weight.

Healthy superfoods that keep you strong and fighting fit


Egg yolks are rich in essential nutrients and antioxidants that help to prevent macular degeneration, cataracts and lower the risk of being affected by breast cancer.

People with heart disease should limit their intake of eggs to two per week. Carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin help to fight disease and reduce the risk of being affected with age related macular degeneration. Macular degeneration leads to blindness in old people.

Greek Yogurt

Greek Yogurt is very good for health. It is rich in Calcium and boosts the growth of immune boosting bacteria. It has twice the amount of protein content than normal yogurt. Choose fat free varieties of Greek Yogurt.

Fat Free Milk

Calcium present in fat free milk makes the bones strong and healthy. It helps to prevent the onset of Osteoporosis. This milk is rich in Vitamin D that helps to absorb Calcium. Without Vitamin D, your body will not be able to absorb Calcium effectively.

Vitamin D also reduces the risk of heart disease, certain types of cancer and relieves back pain. Make sure you drink milk.


Beans are a power house of proteins. One cupful of beans can provide 17 g of fibre. They also have nutrients like calcium, potassium and magnesium that are important for good health. Beans reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, breast cancer and colon cancer. Have 3 cups of beans per week.


Nuts are good for health but they have to be included in your diet in moderation because of the high fat content. Nuts are packed with protein, fibre, essential fat and minerals important for well-being of the body.

They are rich in fat and fibre and keep you full for a long time. Eating a small amount of nuts helps dieters lose weight.

Edamame and Tofu

Edamame and Tofu help to fight heart diseases. They contain unsaturated fat that is good for the heart. Soy’s have isoflavones that help to prevent breast cancer.


Oatmeal is rich in fibre, proteins and low levels of fat. It stabilizes the blood sugar and reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A cup of oatmeal is only 130 calories. It keeps you full for a long time.

The unique fibre in oatmeal called beta-glucan lowers cholesterol levels. Oatmeal is rich in lignans that protects against heart diseases and breast cancer. It also increases the immunity level of the body and prevents against any infections.

Flax Seed

Flax seed has high amount of Omega – 3 fats. It helps to prevent blood clotting in the blood vessels and helps to prevent heart disease.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is rich in monounsaturated fats which lower bad cholesterol level and raises good cholesterol levels. Extra Virgin Olive Oil has the maximum amount of antioxidants and is rich in flavor.


Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats that are good for health. They have a high content of heart protective compounds such as vitamin E, soluble fiber, folate and potassium. They are high in calories so limit your daily intake of Avocado.


Spinach is rich in iron and helps to deliver oxygen to the cells for energy. It is rich in lutein, a compound that prevents heart attacks by keeping the walls clear of cholesterol. Lutein also helps to prevent age related macular degeneration.

Spinach is rich in folate that helps to prevent birth defects. Pregnant women will greatly benefit by including spinach in their daily diet.


Tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene an antioxidant that protects the body against heart disease and breast cancer.


Broccoli contains glucoraphanin, a compound that is converted by the body into sulforaphane. This sulforaphane helps to rid the body of H. pylori bacterium that is responsible for gastric cancer.

Broccoli also contains indole-3-carbinol a powerful antioxidant that prevents the onset of breast, cervical and prostrate cancer. It also boost the liver function.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potatoes are rich in vitamin A is responsible for health and well being of the eyes, skin, the inner lining of respiratory, urinary and intestinal tracts. Replace potato fries with sweet potato fries. A half cup of sweet potatoes is equal to just 130 calories.


Garlic has 70 active phytochemicals. Including garlic in your diet helps to prevent colorectal cancer and ovarian cancer. It also helps to decrease high blood pressure. Garlic fights against infection and bacteria.
