Home Remedies - Toothache

I have had toothaches over the years and let me tell you they will drive you crazy. Something as simple as a toothache can immobilize you and make everyday a walking nightmare. I have tried tons of home remedies over the years and have found the following to work best.

In a pinch, a shot of whiskey swished over the area that hurts will numb it up for awhile and relieve pain. Note this is by no means a permanent cure.

If you have some clove oil, put it on your tooth. It will numb the tooth for about 4-6 hours. You should avoid getting it on your gums, but if you do get it on your gums, it will sting a little. Though no worries as that is natural and will go away in a few minutes.

Take a clove of garlic, bite down on it and let the juices get into your saliva and then swish it around your mouth. It will kill your pain with in ten seconds or so. This remedy will kill pain for a long period of time as well.

Take a over the counter pain pill and crush it to a powder, next get some saliva in your mouth. Pour the powder into your mouth and mix it with the saliva, begin swishing it around your mouth. Do this for about one minute, maybe two and then spit it out. Repeat every two hours or so and you should be pain free as long as you follow the above instructions.

Vanilla extract can be applied to a aching tooth by pouring 3 to 4 drops onto a cotton ball and swabbing the tooth and gums, also if you can stand it, you can pour it directly on to the tooth causing you pain. The benefits may extend beyond temporary relief and provide a calming effect.

Swish a small amount of peroxide around the mouth focusing on the painful tooth. Spit the peroxide in the sink (NEVER SWALLOW) and follow up with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of salt in 6 oz of warm water. This rinse can loosen debris and the salt can offer temporary pain relief for tooth pain caused by sore or irritated gums.

Apply a small amount of vicks vapor rub on the side of the face where the pain is coming from. Place a paper towel on top of the vicks. The heat from the vicks absorbs into the skin and can bring toothache relief.

Halls Cough Drops have a small amount of anesthetic in them. Pop two in your mouth and let them dissolve. This can help with pain for some people.

Wheat grass juice can be used as a mouthwash for dental decay and will help with a toothache. It draws out toxins from your gums and stops bacterial growth.

Put ice cubes on the aching tooth or cheek for 15-20 minutes at least 3 or 4 times a day. This will ease some of the pain and may numb the area some.

Rubbing cayenne pepper on your gums will immediately numbed the area and give you lasting pain relief.

Raw onion has antiseptic properties, so chewing raw onion for 3 minutes or so can help. If it is too painful to chew, simply place raw onion directly on your tooth.

Like I said above I have tried all these at one point or another and they all work to one degree or another. Remember everyone is different and some may work for you and some may not. Anyways I hope this helps you, as no one enjoys a toothache.

Everyone has gone through toothache. One starts hating everyone around when it really hurts! For me, I get to the dentist at the first opportunity when the ache is persistent. Thanks for the tips, Stilag - siva
