Feeling Your Best when You Wake Up

Have you ever woken up and felt more tired than when you went to bed? Have you ever wished you could jump out of bed in the mornings ready to get your day started? Did you know there are things you can do in your everyday life that will make you feel great every single morning when you wake up? I'm going to show you simple steps you can take to feel your best every day!

If you want to feel great when you wake up there are some things you need to change before you are even in the bed.

1. Do not eat right before going to bed. It is a good idea to always have your dinner before seven in the evening so your digestive system has time to slow down. Never eat after seven, this will set you up for a restless night and causes weight gain.

2. No caffeine after 4 pm. We all know that caffeine is a stimulant and causes us to stay awake; this is why many of us pour it down our throats throughout the day. If you use any form of caffeine in the evening, it will affect the quality of your sleep thus affecting how you feel in the morning. Try caffeine free coffee and teas in the evening time.

3. Make sure you use the bathroom. I know this sound childish because we all ask our kids did you go to the bathroom. We don't want to wake up to children who wet the bed, but the same goes for us. We need to make sure our bladders are empty before going to bed so we do not have to have our sleep interrupted because we need to use the bathroom.

4. Relax before you try to fall asleep. Many people accomplish this through praying, meditating, or listening to soft music. Personally I prefer to read before I fall asleep it helps me to relax and takes my mind off of the stresses of the day. I try to do this for at least half of an hour although sometimes I fall asleep before I get to that point.

Now that you are in the bed and relaxed, what type of environment will help you get the most restful sleep?

1. Noise. Many people sleep with televisions on, fans going, or multiple other noises buzzing about the room. The best way to sleep is in silence, if it is possible, you can wear ear plugs to bed. I know those who have young children cannot do this but you can try to get the room as quiet as possible.

2. The temperature of the room is very important. If your room is too cool, you will wake up shivering and will not be able to get back to sleep. Likewise if the room is too hot, your sleep will be interrupted and it will be difficult to fall back asleep.

3. Fresh air is very important to the quality of sleep. You know how we all open our windows on the first warm day after a long winter; we do this because the air in our houses feels stale and old. Whenever it is possible, you should allow fresh air into your bedroom by at least opening your window a little. This will allow all the carbon monoxide to leave your room and allow fresh clean oxygen to enter. This is not recommended if you live in an area where there is a lot of smog.

You have slept well you wake up feeling refreshed, how do you continue to feel like that?

1. Have a glass of water as soon as you wake up. You can have this waiting on your bedside table for you. You want to drink water that is room temperature first thing in the morning so you do not shock your body. The water will jump start your metabolism and give will make you feel more alert than any cup of coffee will.

2. Get out of the bed immediately. Don't lay there and hit the snooze button 3 times. As soon as you are awake get up and begin your morning routine.

3. Go for a walk. Taking a walk in the morning and getting a little exercise before you start your day will give you the boost you need! A very amazing fact about this is that if you exercise today you will have more energy tomorrow!

Waking up each morning with tons of energy is a great feeling and these are the steps to get you there. Don't feel like you have to do every single step all at once, incorporate them slowly into your routine and in no time you will be waking up each morning feeling great.
