Make Your Hair Shine!

With all the hair-care products on the market today, it is truly amazing that many women suffer the effects of damaged hair. Whether you suffer from tangles, split ends, dry or oily hair, or hair that is dull and lifeless, there is a product on the market that is designed to care for your hair. Unfortunately, none of them seem to work. Here are five simple steps that you can take to help ease the pain of that troublesome hair.

1.) Amazingly enough, your hair stresses may be made worse by the foods that you eat. Eating healthy foods, and drinking lots of water, will naturally help to improve your hair's texture from the inside out. Supplementing one soda a day with a glass of water instead will make a difference you can see (and feel) in your hair.

2.) The technique in which you wash your hair plays a big role in the condition of your hair. And, yes, shampooing your tresses is a technique. While some women suffer from very dry hair, many women suffer from the exact opposite- extremely oily hair. Surprisingly, the solution for these problems is the same- use the right technique when shampooing. It is possible that you wash your hair too often, stripping your hair of essential (natural) oils. In some women, their hair will be dry, dull, and brittle, because their hair is not able to produce the oils needed before you wash your hair again. In other women, your hair will be overly oily, because your scalp kicks into overdrive to replenish the oils you are washing out. What result you get depends on the chemistry of your body. When washing your hair, try to utilize the every-other-day technique. For women with oily hair, doing this will help your hair retain the necessary oils, and calm that overacting scalp down, resulting in less oils being produced. For women with dry hair, doing this will give your scalp time to produce these oils, and allows the oils to be absorbed by your hair. No matter what "type" of hair you have, by using the right shampooing technique, you will notice a change in your hair.

3.) When you pull your hair up, you are sure to notice some little "baby" hairs that stick straight up off your head. This can be right at the hair line on your forehead, by your ears, or on the nape of your neck. Last time you went to the beauty salon, you had your hair cut to the same length, so where do these annoying little hairs come from? The cause of these "baby" hairs is simply breakage. Using stiff nylon hair brushes, rollers, rubber bands (even the "ouchless" kind), and elastic hair ties add pressure to your tresses, and causes them to break. Instead of pulling your hair back with "scrunchies" try gently twirling it up, and pinning it with a clip. Use barrettes to pin your hair back, or even better, try wearing your hair down. There are a million styles you can try that don't include using harmful hair ties.

4.) The type of brush you use while your hair is wet, may be another cause of breakage and "baby" hair. You should never use a brush, or a fine-toothed comb to detangle your wet hair. These will pull on your hair, causing it to break. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb and work from the ends up to the roots of your hair.

5.) When you are looking for hair-care products, avoid purchasing any products that contain alcohol. Alcohol is harsh on your hair, and can cause your hair to become dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. Your shampoo, conditioner, styling gel, mousse, and hair spray should contain 0% alcohol. Remember also, what you eat and drink affects your hair, so be sure to reduce your wine, liquor, and beer intake too. These have alcohol in them, and they certainly aren't the nutrients your hair needs to be healthy.
