This article explains what depression is and how God helps you when you are dealing with depression.

Depression and God

When you are feeling alone, angry, and in pain, there may be a reason for these feelings. Depression is a disease, which affects hundreds of thousands of people, and it can be both mentally exhausting and physically debilitating. There are many causes of depression, but I think the worst are money, family, health and religion.

Depression about money comes when there is too little money or too much money. People who have too little, experience depression over whether their bills will be paid on time. Will bill collectors call constantly and harass you when you cant even pay the normal utilities. People with too much money are depressed and often paranoid, because they don't know if their friendships and acquaintances are real or just because they have money.

Depression about family can come from any number of things. Your father is sick, your sixteen year old daughter is pregnant and you are worried that your husband is cheating, can all be the cause of severe depression. Also fighting, disagreements and differing of opinion may cause depression, because the need for family is very strong and without it you are lost and depressed.

Depression about health is also a very big one. I have diabetes and it is a very scary disease. Physically I am tired and irritable a lot, I have feet problems, constantly checking my glucose levels and worried that one day the disease will claim my eyesight or that I would need dialysis.

Depression about religion can come from different situations. Are you afraid that your life does not reflect what God expects from you or are you experiencing being turned off by the church due to hypocrites and the conduct of the modern day churches.

Depression comes in all types but learning coping skills, and a strong should to cry on, that will help you find your way out of the darkness that being depressed has put you in. Praying to God will also relieve the pressures of the day, the pain will be gone and you will be able to go about your life the way you want to. You may also find it beneficial to see a therapist, who can also help you to sort out your feelings and prescribe medications in cases of extreme medication. There are also hot-lines when you need someone to listen to you, and be there to be a shoulder to cry on. Take the steps to get a handle on your depression, and remember start with God first.

I keep my mental balance by not pandering to others' whims. Once we are influenced by others' expecations we feel we fall short. Thanks Katherine for highlighting this very real issue which affects many at various stages of life - siva
