How to recognize that a child is in pain :

It can become quite a challenge, especially for parents of infants. There are three different approaches to the assessment of pain intensity:

• The child itself indicates a strong pain. You can ask him to assess his condition on a scale of 1 to 10 (this method is suitable for older children).

• Changes in behavior. The baby cries, naughty, saves a pen or a leg from the blows he had disturbed sleep, when a sore throat is sharply reduced appetite.

• Physiological changes during pain. In response to severe pain in a child quickens the pulse, blood pressure rises, sweaty palms.

What medications can be given to children :

Without a prescription to relieve pain and fever in children can be used paracetamol or ibuprofen (for children). It is strictly forbidden to give the child up to 15 years, products containing Analgin (metamizole), aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), aminopyrine, antipyrine, phenacetin. They are toxic and can cause serious complications in some cases - even fatal.

Paracetamol is recommended for children starting at one month. Ibuprofen - three months, if the child weighs more than 5 kilograms.

The presence of asthma is a contraindication to the use of ibuprofen. Analgesics for children can be used in the form of drops, suspensions, syrups, chewable tablets, dispersible tablets or suppositories.

It all depends on the child's age, personal experience and preference.

You need to follow a few rules to ensure the effectiveness and security agents used:

• Always make sure the active ingredient in the drug. He is listed at the beginning of the instructions for use. Some drugs may contain the same active substance. It is necessary to ensure that the daily dosage is not exceeded. Also, check for the absence of prohibited drugs in children medicine.

• Use medications that are appropriate for the age of the child.

• Apply the medication only to the dosage specified in the instructions.

• Calculate the dosage by weight of the child. Do not try to give your baby a half or a third of the tablet formulation for adults. This may lead to an overdose.

• If your child has a deficit or excess body weight, talk about the dosage of pain medication with your doctor.

• Do not attempt to remove the severe pain of the child, increasing the dosage of any medicine. This will cause side effects. In very severe pain, call "ambulance."

• For liquid dosage of analgesics using a syringe or a scoop, which usually comes packaged with the medicine. Cutlery will not allow you to accurately measure the required volume.

• It is useful to record the type of drug taken, the reception, a single dose of the drug, the daily dose of the drug and the weight of the child. This will also prevent overdose.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen are also often used to remove the heat.
But it is not always necessary to take the time to shoot down the temperature.
If the child does not have a chronic disease, the temperature at which should take antipyretic drugs should not be lower than 39.0 - 39.5 ° C. If the child suffers from serious diseases (such as cardiovascular or nervous system), then the temperature should not be lower than 38.0 - 38.5 ° C. Fever - a protective reaction of the body, which resulted in the human body starts the process of production of substances needed to fight infection.

Prophylactic painkillers before or after vaccination is not recommended. Do not take ibuprofen or paracetamol if the child had been prescribed antibiotics. Lowering the temperature under the action of analgesic effect can mask the absence of antibiotics and lead to an increase in the duration of the disease.
