Perception of truth, or of our inner nature, our inner reality, involves a process of negating that which is unreal, that which is not. Here's an attempt to depict the process.

I for an I, Truth for a Truth

By its very nature, truth is designed to protect itself,
By its very nature, falsehood is designed to protect itself,
When I am cast away, when trapped in the netherworld,
When I see truth and falsehood both in me,
When I see the self and the Self in me,
The battle of the two is endless,
When I see me only as falsehood, I die, and die again,
When I see me only as the truth, there is no two for the battle,
How wondrous that when I see, I am blind to the truth, and
When I am stop seeing, I am the truth,
When I cast light upon the world, I place darkness upon my Self, and
When I place darkness upon the world, I place light upon my Self.
