Truth is the vast majority of us have an annual birthday (although some of us only have this every four years). Birthdays should be a very personal time, a special time, a time to reflect and to plan. How will you be spending your birthday?

...But Once a Year

A birthday comes but once per year and the truth is that when it comes we are often so busy on other things that it is not possible to spend time contemplating ourselves. In a way your birthday is your new year, because it is the anniversary of your birth. This is the time you should take a few minutes to check on your personal progress and know your plan for the forthcoming year; perhaps while meditating.

  • Have you done well?
  • Where do you go next?

There is one good thing about doing this whilst taking time to self meditate is that it is an opportunity to ask yourself these questions and reflect or plan silently. No one else needs to know what you are doing - this is a private, personal moment.

  • Have you done well?
  • Where do you go next?

The answers only you can truly know. It can be a time to be critical, but do not be too critical. Know the lessons you have learned and set achievable goals ahead.

That Birthday Feeling

That birthday feeling is one of moving your own emotions to a place where you can be as happy as possible. It is always best to take your birthday as a vacation day, but this is not always possible.

The truth is you need to find some time to be yourself, perhaps to find the inner-child in yourself and remember the gifts and joy you had as an innocent child. Take time to be a child again in your mind. The childhood dreams and hopes are important and it is at time like this you should remind yourself of them. Just perhaps they can contribute to the challenges you face right now.

This is the importance of the day off - to invigorate that childhood feeling and to inject it into your current plans.

What will you do on your birthday?

Happy Birthday

If today is your birthday, then spend it well, enjoy it, and find inner peace. This is a special wish to one person without whom life would be all the poorer.

This series is about providing that further encouragement and inspiration - it is perhaps a guide to action.

You can make a contribution as well!

Part of self improvement also involves giving. I am confident that you too can make a powerful contribution. One way to express yourself is by joining Wikinut and become an active writer. Click here for more information.

My birthday is coming up in October and I already know what I will be doing, spending time with my family. Our daughter and her husband will be here to visit that week. I plan on letting my inner child ring through both mentally and physically. Great advice Peter. Thank you for sharing.:)

Madan, sir - we should not stop celebrating birthdays simply because the date coincides with a black day in history. The people on whose birthday this is will already know the black marks and will know how they feel about it.

Thank you, Peter. I was with my mother when she was dying and she died soon after midnight on the day of my birthday. My birthdays really have no meaning except for thoughts of my dear mother.
