Life today has become more cocooned since people spend most of their time in front of TV and other devices. Communication through the media and the modern devices has become an easier and the direct communication of persons face to face has become rare. Does it make social life more phobic?

The modern world is under the spell of technological developments. People spend more time with the devices of modern technology than it was at any time in the past. Life has become more cocooned since people spend most of their time in front of TV and other devices. Communication through the media and the modern devices has become an easier task and the direct communication of persons face to face has become rare. Does it make social life more phobic?

What do you mean by social phobia?

Dictionaries define social phobia as a strong fear of being judged by others and of being embarrassed and which they explain that this fear can be so strong that it may hamper social life such as attending public places, meeting others, and so on.

Social phobia is a common condition

Everyone has some kind of phobia and has felt anxious or embarrassed at one time or another. For example, you may feel nervous to meet new people or give a public speech. This may be a slight symptom of social phobia. But It may be called social phobia when it makes you worried for days together even before the actual happening of events or occupies your mind most of the time.

Socially-phobic people are nervous, shy and clumsy. They always try to be away from facing the public. They may like to be lonely. Even their privacy is a great question mark in their life.

Social phobia is a panic



Experiencing social phobia is a panic condition which is also called Social Anxiety Disorder. It is a kind of introvert condition. This disorder makes people fear social situations and activities. It forces people become reticent and lead a cocooned life within themselves.

Social phobia curbs positive energy and life

Even if socially phobic people want to be positive, their disorder of anxiety curbs their positive interest in others. Heredity may be a cause for this negative personality trait. Or it may be a disorder caused by some specific situation due to some psychological reason.

Socially phobic people can be freed from their condition of disorder through counseling and rehabilitation treatments. It needs encouragement and treatment.

Informative article! I agree that we seem to be spending more time in front of TV or other devices and this is harming us socially.

Good post, VP. How we relate with people has changed due to modern gadgets and networking sites. It is sad that people are more aware of celebrity lives than who they live with. I for one see clear danger signs to family lives and society bonding - siva
