It is a good practice that the elderly people practice jogging. There is a conventional belief that aging means giving up exercises such as jogging because of joint problems and unforeseen accidents.

Can elders continue their jogging practice?

Practicing exercises such as walking and jogging are necessary for everyone. Jogging is an exercise even better than walking. There are several elderly people who practice jogging. Should elders give up their jogging practice as they advance in age?

Aging means changes in the conditions of the body and mind. It affects health in many ways. Most of the elders have changes in their weight level which has great impact on the bones. There are more chances for the elderly people to fall and injure themselves. In that case it becomes very complicated for them.

There is a conventional belief that aging means giving up exercises such as jogging because of joint problems and unforeseen accidents. The aged people who practice jogging may develop arthritis and such other complications because of the pounding inflicted on their knees, ankles and hips.

Researchers say it is good

Recent studies show that people who have jogging as a regular practice need not stop their jogging practice as they get aged since it is a good exercise to keep them healthy, especially their hearts.

If they feel more tired and uneasy it is better to practice walking than jogging. People do not need any special equipment for jogging or walking. Anyone can do it at any place. Jogging is often not as strenuous as other types of serious exercises.

Jogging is advisable

Remember the saying, "You don't run to get fit, but get fit to run". There is a Tamil proverb which means that there should be a wall or canvass to draw a picture. Practicing an exercise should not make a person ill. If the body develops an illness by an exercise what is the use of practicing it?

The elderly people may carry on their jogging exercise until they find it against their ability or make them ill.

A daily 30-minute walk that gets you out of breath should be sufficient exercise for most people - no need to jog!

A doctor was asked if he ever jogged - his answer was "only when I'm late for the funeral of a patient of mine who jogged"!

As with all exercise, you should only do what is appropriate for your physical limitations. if you start mout walking and gradually work up to jogging I think it works better for elderly folks. It is always advisabe to check with your doctor before starting any new excersize program.
