Mandy can't scope with life, but finds it a little easier when she is on drugs. Is there anyone who can help her?

Mandy's Story

Mandy sits shaking in the shop doorway, its cold, she has nowhere to go, and she needs her drugs. She has no money to buy any, so she continues to shake and moan, her withdrawal symptoms are frightening, until a man very smartly dressed in a suit takes pity on her. He thrusts a £20 note at her, muttering quickly.
" Go and get some help, there's a centre down the road, don't freeze to death out here."

Mandy grabs the note, and in a cracked voice, she begs,
" I got £20, just give me a bit, tomorrow I'll try and get off it, but I need some now"

Her dealer, never far away, takes the note from her, and gives her a small amount of cocaine, which she sniffs greedily up her nostrils, and then collapses on the floor giggling and singing, as a temporary euphoria sweeps over her.

Mandy wasn't always like this, but at the age of 13, both her parents died in a car crash, and along with her brother Jamie, she was taken into care and fostered. Jamie got on ok with his new family, he worked hard at school, passed all his exams, and found himself a well paid job.

But Mandy didn't like her new family. Her foster father tried to rape her so she ran away, because she didn't think anyone would believe her story. She was only 14 at the time, had lost touch with Jamie, should have been in school, but instead she found a squat with other teenage girls living in it.

She soon learned the only way to survive was by being a prostitute, she hated it, and the man who controlled her, and once she tried drugs, for that period of time that she was high, she could escape all the miseries of her life, and feel like a happy person. but she wasn't happy, she was now 25, and she had no home and no money, and she didn't know where to turn to get help.

Jamie was now 25, he was getting married very shortly to Sharon, but one thing troubled him. he had never seen his twin Mandy since she had run away from her foster home 11 years earlier. She had changed after his parents had died, and they said she had turned out to be bad. He couldn't believe that at first, they had always been so close, but now he didnt really know if he would ever see her again.

As he strode on, he thought of that poor huddled drug addict in the doorway, there was something about her that reminded him of Mandy, this was why he had taken pity on her,. What was the betting she had used that money to get drugs rather than a hot meal? For some reason best known to himself, he turned round and headed back towards her.

She was dressed in tatty jeans and trainers,, she had flung off the threadbare blanket, and was standing up, her eyes were bright, and he could see she was high, but not too high, when their eyes met, that they couldn't both recognise each other. It was hard to say which of them was the most shocked.

Jamie forgot how ravaged she looked, and that his sister had become a vagrant, none of it mattered, he had found her! Her horror at being confronted by him made her come back to reality and she sobbed with anguish.
" Don't cry sis, He said, wrapping his arms protectively around her, I have found you, and its going to be ok now."
