During last several years General Dental Council has come across with several complaints about teeth whitening treatments being carried out in United Kingdom in general and the teeth whitening in London in special. Most of the complaints were about the side effects caused by sub-standard teeth whitening products, while some were about clinics where people with poor-training or no training carrying out the treatment. Teeth whitening is basically intended to enhance the beauty of teeth and if the treatment proves to be dangerous to the overall health of the body, it cannot be treated as a treatment. Keeping this in mind, GDC along with British Dental Association and European Dental commission has come out with certain changes in the existing laws related to teeth whitening.
The new rule which allows the use of hydrogen peroxide up to 6% in the gel makes it necessary to carry out the treatment either by a dentist or by an expert under the guidance of a dentist. Mushrooming of clinics engaged in teeth whitening has been witnessed in the recent past. Most of them do not have enough facilities or trained staff. These clinics offer treatment without quality. The new rule puts a curb to this unscrupulous practice by making registration compulsory for clinics engaged in teeth whitening in London.
This move has been welcomed by the clinics that are in the business for quite some time. A clinic has to meet several norms in terms of equipment they use and qualification and training of people who work in such clinics. Thus all clinics that want to conduct the business seriously need to keep up certain standards. This will ensure a high level safety in treatment.
Secondly, retail counters are banned from selling teeth whitening products containing hydrogen peroxide above certain limit to the customers. These products cannot be sold without a valid prescription from a registered dentist. This move will really curb the flooding of sub-standards, low quality teeth whitening products in the open market.
This new law brought a confidence in the mind of people. Now more and more people are ready to undergo teeth whitening treatments. Genuine clinics engaged in teeth whitening in London faces a rush. Although it is common for people to undergo cosmetic treatments before the holiday season, the new law is also stated to be a reason for heavy rush experiencing this year. Anyway, the new law will certainly help people to enjoy their holidays with sweet smile and without any health hazards.
