The buchu herb was first discovered in South Africa more than 300 years ago. This special herb provides natural pain relief for a variety of general ailments. One use for this unique plant is relief from UTIs. Read and learn more about the magic properties contained within buchu and how it can help treat UTI related symptoms.

Introducing the Buchu herb

The highly effective medicinal buchu plant is grown exclusively in South Africa’s Western Cape. An integral part of the aromatic Cape Fynbos which thrives in one of South Africa’s three natural World Heritage Sites, the Cape Floral Kingdom; buchu has been revered for centuries as a natural panacea.

Although ordinary in appearance, this indigenous herb is a potent natural and organic treatment for uncomfortable urinary tract infections. Essential oil, derived from the leaves via a high vacuum and low steam distillation process, is presented in the form of soft gel capsules, providing palatable relief from painful UTIs.

Unpleasant conditions which manifest as UTIs include infections of the bladder, also known as cystitis, infections of the urethra (urethritis), enlargement and infections of the prostrate (prostatitis) and abdominal pain (pyelonephritis).

Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections

Typical symptoms of UTIs include:

  • Discomfort, bloating or pressure in the region of the lower abdomen
  • Sharp pain in the back or pelvic area
  • The urge to urinate frequently even when the bladder is empty
  • A burning sensation during urination
  • Cloudy, strong smelling or bloody urine is the most dependable indicator of UTIs, reflecting a high white blood cell count which is commonly known as pyuria

What causes UTIs?

Research has indicated the most common cause of UTIs are bacteria and dangerous pathogens which spread from the bowel into the urinary tract, a process which is aided and abetted by sexual intercourse. In fact, women with multiple sexual partners are high risk candidates for the regular onset of UTIs.

How to treat UTIs with Buchu

Approved by the FDA, WHO and EU as a safe and non-toxic, the efficacy of quality buchu oil in the fight against UTIs has been established by reputable academics at the Synexa Life Sciences, a biotechnology company based in Cape Town.

Scientific studies in controlled conditions demonstrated that buchu oil was particularly aggressive in the destruction of pathogens associated with UTIs, with a 97.5% efficacy against the enteric bacteria, Proteus spp., a 47.6% kill rate of E. coli and a 69.9% success rate against Enterococcus spp.

As a natural antispasmodic, diuretic and anti-inflammatory, Buchu reduces cramping associated with UTIs, expedites the bacterial cleansing of the urinary tract and controls inflammation and discomfort, providing a one stop solution to all the distasteful symptoms of urinary tract infections!
