More Misconceptions about Depression

Depressed people are born sad or unlucky and will remain that way

Although it is true that depressed individuals have perhaps even more hard times than the average person, how these life situations are handled makes all the difference. Positive thinking is key to rectify, the situations, give you the momentum to try and change these circumstances. It gives the humph to go out and ask for help.

Cognitive Behavioural therapists, help their clients look for what can be changed for the better in their lives. They help them to look for any possible amelioration and they help them to begin to see themselves in a better life and to look forward to a better tomorrow.

Depression is just par for the course for teenagers

No doubt the teen years are rough years. Teens are known to be rebellious, test limits, become argumentative and they can be intrigued by the dark side of life, “Goth Culture”. But being constantly depressed, lethargic, and lacking the will to be with friends, or do anything, is not a normal process during the teen years. An about face in personality from happy to sad, a drop of grades and constant brooding can be signs of depression in teenagers. If these moods continue for more than a couple of weeks talk to your teen and seek help if necessary.

Drugs are the only type of medication for depressed people

Drugs are the only type of medication for depressed people

Actually drugs seem to work only for severe depression. The talking therapy and exercise works best for mild to moderately depressed people. New research is showing that exercise works as a medication.
The burning off of calories and the changes in the brain chemistry resulting from exercise helps. We know that the body releases endorphin when exercising and the release of endorphin can be helpful. It is also helpful to exercise in a group for support and socialization.

Depression cannot be treated

We have all heard the people who have said that they had gone for treatment for depression and it did not work. This leads to the assumption that depression cannot be treated. Actually with the right combination of medication( if needed) and psychotherapy, depression can be treated. The National Health Institute quoted a study where 70 percent of depressed people where cured of depression after taking the proper medication (sometimes the medications had to be adjusted for maximum effect). Other studies show positive results that lead to cessation of depression by combining medication and talk therapy.

Looking for attention

If you have a bad day it means that you are depressed

Every one can have a bad day. Short periods of sadness is not considered to be depression. Also, some sadness is normal. It is perfectly normal to feel sad, or disappointed over losing a job. It is normal to grieve over the loss of a or a loved one.

On the other hand, eepression, is a constant feeling of despair, extreme sadness, loss of hope and desire that goes on for at least two weeks. This feeling, many times, can not be substantiated by a single environmental factor. Oftentimes people who are depressed just lose their zest for life and really do not know why they are depressed. With therapy, these people can learn more about themselves and what are the factors which are triggering their depression.

People who are depressed are just looking for attention

That too is false. Many times depressed individuals hide their feelings for fear of being ridiculed or they have given up on life and just do not see the point. Many people remain undiagnosed because they do not go for therapy, thinking that too is a useless waste of time. Many depressed individuals are not looking for attention but they need attention.

Carol, I was in depression and I came out of it and all it takes is willpower and strength to get out of it.
I am not Sylvia Plath who took her own life but none the less, I have a friend who had tried suicide 30 times and god knows what she is depressed about. Hits her kids and abuses her husband for money so that she would win her Mrs. Universe title but walked with just a side title of Mrs. Charisma.
None the less, Depression is a demon, kill it. I killed mine using writing although some idiot or slut thinks my writing is for them to sleep around with just because it has been romantic.
Now drugs are not the only way to clear depression, must be the Montreal depression but in NZ we work for our living and learn life is too short to waste time crying for people although we never ever tell the other side of it.
Mine is I hate men and refuse to be in a relationship unless, it is the One Above himself. So that isn't depression but trauma caused by those myriad of idiots I associate with include few men who dress like women and women who pride themselves as men just to satisfy their lesbian instincts.
Any way, I am out of your. How did your tart and candle wick sale go????
See, I tried to help but learnt many would know the famous writer called you so stepped back and let it boil and bubble on my page so that you didn't fall into depression seeing I deleted it and you never had a friend.
My satire isn't for humiliation but just to let you know as a real friend, I tell you off to make a difference not to destroy you as some idiots think. Possibly their upbringing. Absolutely positively right about that one as they have poor morals too.

I don't know yet about the candles the hostess still has to tally the figures up. It didn't bring in much that much I know.

The topics I write are for everyone not just people in Montreal.

Here is the fact about depression Carol, when you are in an abusive relationship, the depression comes from constant reconditioning of negative violation to who you really as a person. Its because realisation sets in and this causes a person to actually feel the inadequacy of their life being just because of those very reconditioning that they were giving themselves.
Now for example, I know of a male who was a real sweetheart and loved his lady a lot but because he couldn't find her post her leaving the country, was told to go an find a substitute and play around. They made him a womanizer as none of the sluts he befriended added up to her and the result was this feeling of inadequacy wherein he committed suicide rather tried to commit suicide and this resulted in a lot of catastrophe as he left a journal telling the fact that he wanted just that one lady who walked out on him and no one one else.
He lived and he finally managed to trace her out and was getting close to her only to find out demons of his past hurt him so much that one of the worst mistakes was that he had an ex wife who left him with her extra baggage that cause trouble for him as they were like her domineering and violent. The man is still with his lady love but was humiliated and chastised for being himself just because he refused to sleep with anybody else who was nearby.
Here is a fact of this man, no shrink can help him but on the contrary, all it took was this lady to finally show the truth of her life and he broke down had a long cry and finally said it reminded me of me and that was the end of his depression as he began to confide in her.
But sadly, there was another who knew his secrets and she exposed them and that became the pained enmity wherein all the good work this one person did was reverted back into pain because of this person who played with his life and secrets.
Now he has exposed his own life and secrets just to get her off his back and gone back to his lady who waited for him to finish with his demons that nearly put him in his grave.
Now he did that without medication or therapy and love was the only answer.
Here are the list of things they did to him:
1) Hacked his emails
2) Hacked his account in social networking
3) Hacked into his mobiles
4) Tried to run up debts on his credit card which was luckily deactivated.
5) Horrified him by turning up at his place and undressing saying they were lovers in an affair.

Well the woman was deranged and it was later found out that he was the target victim because she was in love with his name and possibly the flesh from the past. He resisted her and it was the reason for what happened. Its a police and media case now.

Now with regard to me, I learnt my husband was sleeping around with a blond bimbo and I had just had a baby. He beat me whilst I was breastfeeding my child and nearly killed the little one who was about 6 weeks then.
I didn't say a word but told my mum who went to find out the divorce procedure in NZ back then but we reconciled until he repeated a similarity again about 2-3 years later. I lost my pregnancy because of it but took to writing and cured myself by writing and prayer. And this time I left him but not divorced.
Result is simple, I don't want to know men and feel they are horrors of creation and I had just one male in my entire life.
So yes, I cured myself too without meds and I prefer no more relationships as this one taught me enough and found that the people I met were horrifyingly similar too so thanks but no thanks.

BTW, I abused prescription meds too and no one knew about it until I was very upset one day and took a whole strip of anti-depressants and told my doctor I had done this to remain calm. Never took meds after that.
