Nursing A Holiday Hangover

The pre-occupation of poets, songwriters and romantics is the 12 days Christmas or the day after Christmas. My main concern, however, is the five days between Boxing Day and New Year.

I would have included Boxing Day in my concerns, but I happen to think that Boxing Day is a brilliant innovation.Indeed,I believe that, like weekends, all holidays should come in pairs.A two-day-long holiday allows an unwise individual to over indulge on the first day and then recover from the hangover ( in the case of drink) or ''her crouch under''-if there is such a word-( in the case of food) on the second day.Actually,''crouch-under is not a bad term to describe those times when you lie moaning under quilt repenting the gluttony that has bloated your belly!
Back to the days in-between; has anyone figured what to do with these five-day period? Yes,I know that lots and lots of people go away to a spot with plenty of sunshine, noise and food and try to 'relax' with the family. However, if you look carefully, you will notice that the workaholic continues to massage the screen of her smartphone and search for messages every five minutes. There is no rest for the 'work-prone'!

Nothing Novel

However, since they have suffered so much this year,i have a few suggestions on what to do next year during the zombie-zone between the two big holidays of the year.
Some of the ideas are nothing from novel, and indeed have already been regularly implemented over the years. Some smart Alexa considered this period to be the ideal time for pseudo-controversies including elections, exam results and exhaust. You would think that this is the ideal time to hold elections since people should be brimming over with the goodwill of the festive season. However, experience has proven that human beings are just as likely to overflow with bile as they are to overflow with benevolence. As for exam results, they are such a yoyo of celebration or disappointment that it is hard to tell whether this is the most appropriate time to release them. Finally, the gridlocked traffic jams created by individuals returning from their visits certainly generate plenty of exhaust, and exhaustion too!

Where The Problem Lies

Detoxification from eating, drinking and controversy would be an excellent way to spend a couple of days.We can detoxify by sticking to an inflow of vegetables with our mouths and we can detoxify our emotions by avoiding an outflow of vitriol from our mouths (of course, these days, the problem is the mind, not the mouth, since you can use fingers as well as lips to communicate your evil thinking.)
Closely linked with detoxification, this is also a very good time of the year for shedding. The obvious one is going on a diet to shed the pounds that have built up on the body due to too much food and drink-but you can also practice the Chinese art of feng shui and shed the excess contents of desk, closet and house.Indeed that is what Boxing Day is truly about.

It is a time to put all those things that you don't need in boxes and give them away.It feels great to arrive on New Year's day with a much lighter load of possessions!

However, another oldie is to spend the five days meditating on your successes and failures of the past year and writing a meaningful set of New Year's resolutions in response.I deliberately use the word ''meangful''. Apparently,in North America at least, less than half of human beings make such resolutions and,of these, less than a tenth keep their resolutions. The reason for this becomes clear when you consider that the top three resolutions are to ''lose weight'',''get organised'' and to ''spend less and save more''.These are clearly related to what has just happened around Christmas time and not to the rest of the year.Is it any wonder that they remain forgotten until the following Christmas?
Make your resolutions count this year!

I heard taking Tylenol an hour before prevents hangovers; however not drinking prevents hangovers too lol.I would like to add if someone wants to drink to have a designated driver. I just saw a facebook post of a toddler that was injured due to a drunk driver. I pray he makes it. I say drink in moderation or at least do not drive.
